By NORMA BERGMAN Chief news in the social world this Friday is the big Tri Delt dance tonight in the Columbia ballroom. Starting the evening for the Delta Delta Deltas will be a drop-in for them and dates. To the hale and hearty damsels who sold TB bangles last Saturday go the profuse thanks of the Bangles committee. In case you missed it in the daily newspapers, over $1,000 was collected. Some fellows pin their girls, but there is a Kappa Sig who gives his girl a 1950 car. Love is grand. Partying Friday night at the "Y" camp will be the Carolina Christian Service Club. Also partying that night will be Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Wonder where? The drop in for this week will be by the Pi Phi's. Same time, 8 to 9:30. All students and faculty invited. House partying at Poinsett State Park this weekend were the following ATOs and Tri-Delts: Hume Guerard (?) and Virginia Doughty; Henry Hutson with Marnie Manning; Will Midelleton and Nancy Mitchell; Bo Morrison and Felecia Howell. Better late than never news dept. Jackie Nuney, Pi Phi, had a fine time at the Army-Navy game. Margie Teague, ZTA, and Carl Sheelor, graduate, will be married Dec. 29 in the Main St. Methodist. Lois Huff, KD, and Paul Foster, Kappa Sig, were married Dec. 1st in Augusta. Now here is a fine idea. The Alpha Delta Pis had a Christ mas party for 36 orphans Monday night. Toys were given out (Who played Santa Claus?) and ice cream, cookies and candy were the refreshments. David Johnson, SAE, and Mary Chase, Tri Delt, went to the Assembly Ball. Also, Rivers Jenkins and Ann Lumpkins. William F. McElveen, the assistant postmaster, was mar ried Nov. 24 in Havana, Cuba. The couple now resides on Wheat St. Be sweet to him. Boy, didn't those Phi Kaps get around last weekend!I Jim Jenkins and Kea Keels went to Limestone. Dick Tuten wandered up to Converse, and attending the dance at Win throp were "Skid" McRainey, Bentley Rivers, "Footsy" Field, Jack Field, Phriness Cox, Bobby Jones, Dave Martin, Bobby Oliver, and Bill Barrett. Out to Columbia college went Don Edney, Dave Waugh, Dick Kelly, Al Dembar, Robert Rasherd, Paul Hyskanich, Bruce Dodd, Jim Brown, Richard Bobo. Pi Phi, Betty Lou Wilson will marry Phi Kap Charles Weagly. This wedding is the 28th. The Lambda Chis traveled around this weekend. Bob Scott and Gene Floyd went to a dance at the Spartanburg JIunior College. The rest of these people went to the Columbia college formal: John Mackey, Jim Hilton, Carlos Salter, Frank Hays, J. T. Mauldin, John Jones, Bob Barkoot, Jim Snead, Frank Howell, Norris Mullis and A. W. Johnson. After these few paragraphs, is there a doubt in anyone's mind why so few students were at the basketball game??? Joe Pearce, T-Boy Ellis and Jack Jones, all SAEs, attended the Assembly ball in Greenville. Humble apologies to the Lambda Chis; the following fellows went dancing at Winthrop, Jim Findley, Joe Brown, George Floyd, Billy Richardson and Gene Swann. Housepartying this past weekend were the Phi Sigs and dlates. Those enjoying the outing were Toby Ward with Ann Boyd; Burr Chambless and Joanne Ballentine; Dwane Mor rison and Pat Matheson; Jay Quick and Jane Gutherie; Jim .Jordan with Sandy Cranford; Clarence Player and Betty Coley; "Chuck" Davidson and Peggy Bean; Tommy Talley and Ivey Seay; John Floyd and Jane Ann Noland. Pi Phis had their Christmas party 'tother night out Pmnewood Way. Gene Anne Strickland, A D P1 alum, was down for the weekend. She's teaching at Anderson college now. Ed Wilson will be married Saturday at the First Presby terian. Recently initiated into Phi Sig were Burr Chambless, Dick Duncan, and Al Tison. Congratulations, long and happy years to you. The Phi Sigs went dancing this weekend too. Going to Winthrop were Phil Sawyer and Randy Bryant. Pearl Beaty and Buddy Whitaket wont out to Columbia College. Thass all for now. Kappa Delta Gives Christmas Plans Kappa Delta sorority will enter tain a group of children from the Carolina Orphanage, Saturday, De cember 15. This party is a part of the Kappa Delta Christmas pro gram. The children will play games and will be served Christ mas candy and holiday dessert. Ann Ready, president of Beta Zeta chapter, announces that the pledge class is taking charge of the party as their Christmas phil anthropy. The sorority will hold a Christ mas breakfast on Sunday, Decem ber 16, at the Wade Hampton hotel. The entire group will meet for breakfast at nine-thirty, after which they will attend church to gether at Trinity Episcopal church. Kaydees will hold their annual Christmas party on Tuesday, De cember 18, in the chapter room. Actives, pledges, and alumnae are invited to attend. Contributions will be brought for the sorority's needy family. Gifts will be ex changed by means of drawing names. Entertainment will be provided by the pledge class who will pre sent a skit. Officers of the pledge class are Gloria Gillmore, presi dent; Judy Ruff, vice-president; Nell McCants, secretary; and Mary Jo Gooding, treasurer. Engineers from all over the State will gather here for the one-day meeting, according to James E. Norton, president of the student chapter of the ASCE. Registration will be held at 3 p. m. Friday with a tour of the campus with special emphasis on the engineering laboratories, both old and future new labs. The group will meet at "Mammy's Shanty" at 6:30 for a buffet supper. A movie on an engineering subject will follow the supper. The meeting will adjourn at 9. Guest speakers for the occasion will be Mr. Alec Brown of Orange burg, president of the State Sec tion of the ASCE; and Mr. T. Keith Legare of Columbia, Secre tary of the National Council of State Board of Engineers Exam iners and also Secretary of the South Carolina Board of Engineer Examiners. Dean Robert L. Sum walt of the School of Engineering will give an Introduction to the meeting and welcome the engi neers. Mr. Albert E. Johnson of Colum bia, secretary and treasurer of the State Section of ASCE has played a great part in making this first meeting possible. The success of this meeting will decide whether or not another meeting will be held. This fraternity has been represented twice before on the campus-first, in 1904, and later, from 1929 to 1936. Initiation ceremonies will be held at the Shandon Methodist church tomorrow afternoon by an initia tion team from Wake Forest col lege. At 7:30 p. m., a banquet will be held in the Club room of the Jefferson hotel. The master of ceremonies on this occasion will be Dean Orin F. Crow, of the university school of education, while the principal speaker will be Leodel Coleman, editor of the "Statesboro (Ga.) Herald," a pub lic relations officer of the U. S. Marine corps during World War II.
