but the latter let the winners know
they were in the fray.
One of the hottest contests to
he witnessed by yours truly, in al
most any sport, occurred between
the NRO's and Ten. 29. The game
was begun at five in the afternoon
and after each team had won a
game apiece, by only the minimum
necessary to win a game, two
points, it became very dark and
Ten. 29 tried to finish the game
inside. The NRO's objected and
after much argument and consult
ing of those who were in the know,
it was decided to play the game
the next day. So last Wednesday
was the scene of a closely fought
game where the Ten. 29 six made
a deficit of 13-4 all the way
up to 13-10 but they lost the ball
and very soon after, the game.
If it can be arranged a game
will be played between the two
winners of the two leagues to de
cide the Campus Champs. This
game will be played if time permits
and if the two teams can decide
on some agreeable time.
Wilma Hughes, student director
of intramural sports, had this to
say about the 1951 volleyball
season: "The teams and individuals
in the Fraternity League were the
most talented I have seen since I
have been at Carolina. The season
was a big success except for the
decreasing lack of interest as
shown on the part of some of the
independent ball clubs. All in all,
though, I am very pleased and I
hope the turn out for the rest of
the Intramural program will be as
keen as was that in the volley
ball."
It is almost impossible to have
winning teams without a few out
standing ball players and this
sport of volleyball is no exception.
Perhaps the most versatile ball
players out on the courts were
Dwvane Morrison, Phi Sigma
Kappa; Charles Bone, Sigma Nu;
H. P. Smith, Ten. 24%; Jim Aus
tin, NROTC; and Thurston "Tut"
Vernon, of Ten. 24, who stands
alone as the b)est front line man
of the campaign.

The football season will continue
on past the Christmas holidays and
should end some time in the first
two weeks of .January with the
same playoff plans being made
after the season's finish as were

Final statistics for the Carolina
footl>all team showed captain Steve
Wadiak leading the Birds in in

Wadiak scored twice against Wake
Forest in the season finale to run

enough for a tie in the state scor
ing race.
Wadiak's 73 yards rushing upped
his season total to 685 yards which
was 270 yards better than his
closest pursuer, fullback Bobby
Drawdy. Sophomore Gene Wilson
followed Drawdy with 231 yards.
Dick Balka was the individual
passing leader with 26 completions
good for 401 yards. Johnny Gram
ling was second with 21 comple
