. . . a spoke a week . . .
By MARLENE RAST
Guess there's no need telling all you "good people" that
things are really rolling again at Carolina, what with the
first ball game (?) of the season behind us with its accom
panying parties.
SAE's held a party in the Jefferson Hotel Saturday night
after the Duke game in honor of visiting brothers from Duke
and alumni. A few of those present were: REM PARLER
with KATHERINE STONE, Tri-Delt; BOBBY BROAD
WELL with ALLENE BLAND, Tri-Delt; JOE PEARCE
with HELEN COGGESHALL, KD; BUDDY DERRICK with
JUNE NIGGEL, KD; ED ROYALL with HELEN JOHN
SON, Tri-Delt; GEORGE JAMES with REN FREW, KD;
and ROBERT BLAND with LOU KIDDER, Tri-Delt.
Also partying Saturday night were the Sigma Nu's at
Morris Lodge. Al Fisher, alumnus, and Commander Bard
Allison were "surprised" by a birthday cake presented by
Dan Donnovan in behalf of the Sigma Nu chapter. Other
alumni up for the weekend were: LEWIS HAIGLER, ROY
CURRANCE, CLARK and AL ADICKS.
Tri-Delts have a right to sing "Wedding Bells Are Break
ing Up That Old Gang of Mine 1" Leck Paschall was recently
married to JOHN MASON, KA, and MARY HYER married
VIC HENDRICKSON of Charleston. Other Tri-Delta taking
the vows this fall are DOT HEYWARD to BEN BADGER,
SAE; and ANN LOUISE PRESSLEY to DICK BLENCO,
SAE. Although they haven't taken the final step yet,
FRANCES WEEKS, Tri-Delt is wearing the pin of REESE
JENKINS, a Sigma Phi Epsilon alum from Davidson.
Lambda Chi's seem to have been caught in the inevitable
snare also. JIMMY KONDUROS has placed a ring upon
the "third finger, left hand" of GWYN SHELOR, Pi Beta
Phi. The wedding is to take place in late October. Also to
be married the latter part of October are RAY BERRY,
Lambda Chi and PAT BASS, Chi Omega. Regardless of their
brothers "settling down," Lambda Chi's, their alumni, plus
Lambda Chi's from Duke enjoyed a party at the Woman's
Club Saturday night.
Not by any means have the Phi Kaps been falling down
on their job (fat back frys, that is). A fat back fry was
held Saturday night after the Duke game at Sun View Lake.
Five Duke Phi Kaps came down for the game and spent
Saturday and Sunday here.
ZTA'S NANCY HALE and JANE ALMY seemed to have
had one big summer, what with visiting their sorority sister,
JOYCE WOODEL, in New York City and then hitting the
big town of Washington, D. C.
DOTSY RICHARDSON, Tri-Delt, journeyed up to Clem
son for the Clemson-P. C. game and a dance last weekend.
BAYARD PICKETT, Sigma Nu, has pinned TINA Mc
NULTY.
JAY QUICK, Phi Sigma Kappa, pinned MARLENE
AYERS of Charleston this past weekend.
Visiting Alpha Delta P1's up for the game were B. J.
McLEAN, MARY JEAN PARISH, KATHLEEN SIMS, and
SEVENA MOLAIR. ANNE BUGGLE from Charleston is
an ADPi transfer from Queen's College. Also heard that
JANE ELLIOTT, ADPi, received a ring from an SAE from
Furman.
PRISCILLA NEWELL, national Tri-Delt traveling sec
retary, visited the Tri-Delts for a week at the beginning of
the semester.
Tri-Delta are having a drop-in Sunday night at eight
o'clock.
Pi KA's and their dates were entertained Saturday night
after the Duke game at a drop-in at the home of H. G. Car
ter. Present for the affair were brothers from Duke Uni
versity, the University of Tennessee, Wake Forest, Missis
aippi Southern and, of course, the University of South
Carolina.
The society page wishes to apologize to Prof. ERIC
OPPENHEIMER for the mistake made in the last issue in
which he was listed as married. (Seems like some of his
friends got quite a shock !)
JOSEPH H. EASLEY was initiated into ATO recently.
Well, that's all the news that was turned in this week!
From the way it reads, people seemed to be getting around
quite a bit. If you want any news in the Wagon Wheel, send
it to the Gamecoc,k, Box 79, by Monday.

C. H. Davidson, president of
Phi Sigma Kappa, has announced
a party given at the 'Y' Camp last
Saturday night. The affair lasted
from seven-thirty until twelve

with guests from Georgia Tech.
The party .was muddy, but quite
enjoyable.

A suburbanite was sitting at his
window one evening when he casu

that woman Bill Jones' is so ter

was in the kitchen, dropped a cup
she was wiping, hurtled through
the door, knocked over a lamp and
a bowl of goldfish, and craned her
neck to look out the window.
"Where?" she panted.
"There," he pointed, "that wom

Better Cheering
The Pep Club held its meeting

the endeavors of the cheerleaders
during the Duke football game cer
