Eight Execs Go
To Conference
At YMCA's Camp
Eight executive officers of the
university YM-YWCA attended a
training conference at the Y camp
recently. Burt Wheeler, Y director,
and assistant director Ralph Bates
also attended.
Miss Ann Queen, chaplain and
instructor in the department of
religion at the University of Geor
gia, spoke to the group on, "Re
sponsibilities of Office in the YM
YWCA."
On Saturday afternoon approxi
mately 20 other members of the
two campus organizations joined
the retreat. Miss Queen led a dis
cussion on, "Program Arrange
ments."
Following supper, the Rev. P. J.
Dexness d,irector of the Board of
Evangelism, Lutheran church, New
York, led a discussion on, "The Re
sponsibilities of YM-YWCA as
Evangelists."
The conference was closed early
Sunday so that members could re
turn to town in time to attend
church. A short worship service led
by Jeannette Beisley of Columbia
concluded the program. Mr. Wheel
er also made a short talk.

Officers for the staff of WUSC
were elected last Thursday at the
meeting. Those elected are as fol
lows: Billy Hay, station manager;
Betty Strickland, secretary; Bob
Baxter, program director; Don
Blodgett, chief engineer; Gene
Huerta, chief announcer; and Mary
Evelyn Rogers, business manager.
The office of music director is
still open but will be filled some
time soon.
WUSC has added a new program
to its schedule. The new program,
"Carolina Square Table," is spon
sored by Alpha Phi Omega. Mem
bers of the administration, faculty
members, aid students gather to
gether and discuss campus events,
projects, etc.
Appearing on the first presenta
tion of this program were Dean
Chase, the guest, and Professor
deGravelines, the new student
activities director. Also present
were Don Blodgett, a member of
the student council, and Wally
Hinnent, acting as moderator. The
pro's and con's of the student union
building were discussed.
Be sure to listen to "Carolina
Square Table," every Tuesday
night 10-10:30. This new program
is produced by George LaBruce.

As most of you have heard, I
imagine, "Hersh" is a very talented
pianist. You "guest" it! "Hersh"
consented to star in "Guest Star,"
and I must say that he did a won
derful job. The program certainly
sounded well-planned and not a
mere spur of the moment act.
"Hersh" is to be commended for
this kind, great, and very much ap
preciated deed.
WUSC has another one of those
"hot platters." This time it is
"Rose, Rose, I Love You," by
Frankie Laine, with "Jezebel" on
the flip side. "Rose" is only third
place on the campus hit parade, but
it will soon be at the top of the list.

James E. Norton, of Mullins, was
recently elected prethidnt of the
campus chapter of the American
Society of Civil Engineers for the
fall term.
Marvin Cribb, North Augusta,
was named vice-president; Jack
Breckenridge, Columbia, secretary;
and Bryan Amos, Baltimore, Md.,
treasurer.

Voice' Is Sexy

With a main theme of sex, "The
Voice of the Turtle" rocked 'em in
lie aisles when it opened at Town
l'heater last week. E v e r y o n e
sened in favor of it-sex, that is
-audience, cast-all.
"The Voice of the Turtle," a
couedy in three acts by John Van
Druten, is the story of young love
in New York during the war. Don
Juan in a sergeant's uniform (Roy
Lind) comes to New York for a
wild week end with Olive Lash
brooke (Christie Zimmerman), a
promiscuous actress. He gets stood
up, but is taken in hand, heart, and
finally, bed by Sally Middleton
(Toni Rhinhardt ), not a virgin but
still a nice girl.
The play rocks along with humui
both subtle and broad. The heauti
ful Mrs. (damit! Rhinhardt speaks
her lines with such a freshness and
warmth as to capture the coldest
heart.
Roy Lind, a Town Theater vet
eran, put in a convincing perfor
mance. Christie Zimmerman pro
voked many a giggle and raised
many an eyebrow with the role of
a sophisticated tramp. Her slight
overplaying added to the humor of
the play.
