USC, Q Annual Int Game Between Upi And Freshmen At I By FRED McALISTER The annual intrasquad game of the University of South Carolina football team will be played Tues day on Melton field at 8 p. m. Last year's freshman team, with the aid of a few recent enrollees I and a couple of veterans will be matched against the upperclass men. Coach Rex Enright and his staff will divide the squad into what will be known as Black, the upperclass men, and Red, the freshmen, teams. Grady has been used as a pitchei ever since and college batsmen have a rough time of it when he is called on for mound duty. Against col. lege teams, he has racked up a re. markable 17 and 8 record. College teams are not the only ones to find Grady's stuff confusing, while pitching American Legion ball in his home town at Donalsonville, Georgia, he threw two consecutive no-hitters. Including those two he won 12 and lost 3. Grady has played for two other colleges before coming here. He won six and lost three for a junioi college in Georgia his first year. He changed to another junior col. lege the next year and picked ur four wins and no losses. Harry Parone, former star ath. lete here, saw Faircloth pitching at Intramural Tourn Playoffs in the Independen1 leagues started last Wednesday night with ASCE defeating Tene ment 24% by the score of 31 to 24 The Town Boys were triumphan over the Dukes, 86 to 81. The second round was held of Thursday with ASCE beating th Town Boys 44 to 28 while Tene ment 24% was eliminating th Dukes from the tournament by de feating them 50 to 30. In the semi-final round helc Tuesday night, the Town Boy were defeated by Teneme.nt 24'.. by the score of 49 to 48. The finals began Wednesda; night between ASCE and Tene ment 24%. ASCE has to win onl: one game while Tenement 24% ha to win two to capture the Independ ent championship. The Fraternity tournamen started last Thursday night wit] Sigma Chi beating Pi Kappa Alphi 82 to 24. Pi Kappa Phi defeate Kappa Alpha 47 to 28. On Friday night Pi Kappa Ph1 defeated Sigma Chi 37 to 22 an Kappa Alpha beat Pi Kappa Alph 31 to 23. His seven wins and no losses here last year shows just how effective he is, and watching him pitch in intrasquad games this year indicates that he is in for another great year. He probably owns one of the best curve balls in the -conference. He uses it most when the going gets rough. Grady was called on ten times by Coach Ted Petoskey last year. He pitched in 66 innings, gave up 60 hits and 43 men went out swinging. His earned run average was the best among Bird moundamen with 1.98. He gave up 14 earned runs, made four wild pitches and gave up only 22 walks. He pitched the only shut-out, a 15-0 victory over Furman. Although Grady quit his short stop position long ago, he didn't exactly lose his batting eye. Petoskey used him a little in the outfield last year, and including the eleven games he appeared in, he hit .370.
