Roy E. Burbage, junior in the
school of arts and sciences, came
a long way to attend the university
--all the way from the Netherlands
West Indies in fact.
This group of islands is just off
the coast of SoutlL Ameri a in the
Caribbean sea. The ,isI that
Roy calls home is Aruba one of
the southernmost of the group, just
18 miles from Venezuela.
Aruba, only 19 miles long and
five miles wide, is the site of the
largest oil refinery of its type in
the world. Roy's father is a super
intc-ndent in one of the three
major divisions of the refinery.
Roy was born in Charleston but
moved to Aruba in 1936. He at
tended school there until 1942,
when he came back to the United
States for two years. He returned
to Aruba in 1944 and entered Lago
high school. This school is owned
and operated by the American
colony on the island. He was grad
uated in 1948.
One of his friends in high school
was a native of Texas, and upon
graduation persuaded Roy to go to
Texa:, to college 'ith him. In the
fall of 1948, they matriculated at
Texas A&I.

Roy attended college there for
two years but during the summer
of 1950 decided that he would like
to return to his native state.
That fall he transferred to the
university, where he is presently
majoring in psychology. He plans
to enter personnel work upon
graduation, but for now, he is so
pleased with Carolina that he has
persuaded his two younger brothers
(twins) to enter next fall.
A professor of English at North

more Northwestern women smoke

that 60 per cent of the girls smoke,

drive the American male, who is
sensitive about his masculinity, to

Vespers Drive
To End Sunday
Sunday, March 4, will mark the
ending of a week-long attendance
drive of the Vespers Committee of
YM-YWCA.
In connection with improving
their worship services, the Vespers
Committee held a worship work
shop last Wednesday night and
again last Sunay night. Marie
Edwards, director of the YWCA,
led the group in a discussion of the
elements that are present in a
workshop experience. "Worship,"
Miss Edwards said, "must come
from within the individual."
Following this advice, Joyce
Kimball and Bill Rowe have at
tempted to choose a subject for the
next program that will apply to
all students-"Christian Love and
Marriage." The chimes will begin
at 7 p. in. Sunday night, and the
program itself will begin at
7:15 p. in.
