"The knitting season," I th
wove my way to a seat. I hoped,
foolishly, that perhaps my sorority
would be the only one bitten by
this annual bug, but I was wrong.
To all of you uninitiated, every
year about this time a period of
domesticity hits our fair ladies.
Who starts it and where it comes
from are unknown. The only pre
requisite for the knitting season
seems to be the spirit of the Yule
tide.
Those aren't telephone wires
hanging around the campus. From
now till Christmas the grounds
will be strung with red, yellow, and
other brightly tinted threads. Life
and limb are in danger, and many
a weary male will plead for mercy
after holding the yarn as sweet
Susie rolls her knitting thread.
Needles become weapons, and yarn
becomes a trap.
Boys, if the girl-friend slips her
arms around you, don't think she's
being romantic; she's simply
measuring you for a sweater. The
girls making,like Sherlock Holmes
as they study footprints on the
campus are actually determining
the size of their true love's tootsie.
Professors, resign yourselves.
Christmas presents must be made;
not even classes will be allowed to
interfere. Your lectures must vie
in importance with a dropped
stitch.
Does anybody know how to turn
a heel?

Don't study when you're tired,
Or have something else to do;
Don't study when you're happy,
For that will make you blue;
Don't study in the day time,
And don't study at night;
But study at all other times,
With all your main and might.
