Intramura With Actic By L. C. TANKERSLEY Intramural basketball opened last week with 11 games being played. The intramural department is looking for students interested in working in the intramural office. Those interested should contact Joe Grugan, intramural director, at the office. In games played last week, Ten. 30 defeated R. 0. T. C., 50 to 27. Price scored 12 for the winners, and Kocher led the losers with 11 points. Phi Kappa Alpha edged Phi Kappa Sigma, 30 to 21. Thomp son made 12 points for the victors and Clarkson and Dowdle got six each for the Sigs. The Newman Club squeezed by Preston Second, West, 27 to 23. English led the winners and Gil lispe headed Preston, both with 10 points. Lambda Chi Alpha downed Phi Sigma Kappa, 28-12. Fagan and Dean shot six points for Lambda Chi, while Caughman chalked up five points in defeat. Sigma Chi, led by Hunt with 17 points, had a field day in running over Pi Kappa Phi, 36 to 11. Brown got seven for the Kaps. McBryde downed Ten. 5, 51 to 26, led by Wilkes with 12 points. Stev enson made 13 for Ten. 5. Happersett made seven points to lead Ten. 31 to victory over A. S. M. E., 31-12. Alcorn found four for the losers. Ten. 29 gave Ten. Nine the worst whipping of the week, 56-7. Rogers pitched in 18 points. Stone got five of the losers' seven. Tens. 2 and 3 banded together to nearly "skunk" the Camden Carolina team, 29-2. Psillas shot Chesterfield Contest Wow! Response to our first Chesterfield contest was terrific. In all, 17 entrants correctly identi fied the picture as Chuck Spann, former Gamecock light heavy- | weight, who won Lie Southern Conference championship three years ago. The entry of Jim A. Byers, Box 584, was received at a few minutes after 9 a. m., Friday. He was first, so he is the winner of the carton of Chesterfields. "This drop is not due to any inferiority in the swimming of the men now on the team," Ratcliff said. "All of the boys are very good and I am well pleased with theni. The trouble is due to the fact that they are only nine men carrying the load of 15. "There is no reason for this situation since there are enough capable swimmers on the campus who could aid the overloaded mem bers of the team. There are at least four good swimmers who were on the team last year and who could make themselves avail able. I would go so far as to say that we have more good swimmers here than we now have men on the team." The members of this season's swimming team are Jimmy Smith, B. Rhame, Doc Lamb, Pat Mc Kinsey, Nick Koluch, Perry Daw son, Preston Darby, Dick Dunham, and Pete Wardlaw. Carolina has lost to Emory, 61 12, and Clemson, 57-18. To date, matches have been scheduled with most of the teams in the state and also with Miami. Returning from last year's team are Fred Atkinson of Hartsville; Theo Constan, George "B.B." Roth, and Ray Long, all of Columbia. Other potential members are La vant Holcombe and Hugh Gibert, both of Columbia.
