Four Home Games
All eight South Carolina college
football teams set new attendance
records for the 1949 football
season, but the biggest boost to at
tendance records came from Caro
lina.
The Gamecocks with four home
games drew 99,000 persons for a
state attendance record. Clemson
College played five home games
but managed to draw only 80,000
spectators.
In all ten games played the
Gamecocks set! another state rec
ord by playing before 213,000 per
sons. This was a great distance
in front of Clemson's 1948 record
of playing before 179,000 fans in
the same number of games.
The Gamecocks' attendance boost
is due mainly to a schedule which
included such powers as Baylor,
Georgia Tech and North Carolina.

Winners have been scarce the
past couple of weeks in the Game
cock Sportsquiz.
And here they are. A 100%/
total right will get you two free
passes to the Carolina Theater if
you'll write your answers on a
piece of paper and send them along
to us. The first right answver wvill
be the winner. In case of ties the
winning name will be drawn out of
a hat.
1. What is the name of . the
stadium in which the annual East
West college all-star game will he
played on December 31?
2. Al Wistert played football for
what university?
3. What Southern university did
Truett Rip Sewell attend?
4. In what sport does Beverly
Baker participate?
After looking at the questions
again we've decided that maybe
three out of four answers ought
to be good enough for a winner
if nobody gets them all right. So
that's' the way it will be.

Pre-season forecastinj on the
prospects of this year's team is dif
ficult. Carolina facIp the problem
of rebuilding a team which lost
several outstanding players because
of ineligibility and graduation.
Henry Martin, high scoring for
ward of last year's crew, was grad
uated in June. Johin Szakacsi, one
of the better guards in the South
ern Conference last year, along
with Harry Parone and Jack Reid
are ineligible due to NCAA rulings.
This year's squad will be built
around Jim Slaughter, six-foot
nine-inch center from Roanoke, Va.
Slaughter, who is only a junior,
