Intrani Volleyball Ends; Vets-Kappa Alpha Win League Titles The Intramural volleyball league wound up the 1949 season this past week with Kappa Alpha winning the fraternity league champion ship and the Carovets taking the independent top spot. An effort is being made to match first two teams in each league in a campus championship playoff. In the event that this can be conducted the eight teams who will participate will be , Kappa Alpha and Alpha Tau Omega, from Fraternity League fI; Sigma Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, from Fraternity League II; the ROTC unit and Tenement 1 and 5, from Independent League I; and Caro vets and Tenement 29, from Inde pendent League II. In league play this week Kappa Alpha had their hands full when they tangled with Sigma Chi in the fraternity finals. They were forced to come from behind to win the final' two games, 15-10 and 15-5, after being whipped in the first contest by a score of 14-16. In the independent finals Caro vet swamped Tenement 29 in the initial game 15-1, dropped the sec ond fracas 10-15, then came back fast to win 15-3. Buses Will Take Students To Tech Game Tomorrow The Gamecocks will be playing in a home like atmosphere when they meet the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Saturday after noon. Besides the Carolina alumni who will journey to Atlanta, chartered buses will take a large number of students to see the game. The band is also scheduled to journey to Atlanta and will Per form at half-time before an ex pected capacity crowd. Eight Audio-Visual Aid Classes Taught In Twenty Counties There are eight classes being taught Audio-Visual Education this term by the Audio-Visual Aids Department of the Extension Divi sion. These classes are being taught in eight different centers. 20 counties are represented and ap proximately 123 schools. The Vet erans Hospital, Veterans Adminis tration, and University students are included also. These classes include studies In Audio-Visual aids material, how to make material, how much it costs where to find the material, and how to evaluate material. The stu dents get practice in modern equip ment, such as motion picture pro jectors, film strip projector, opaque projector and transcription players. This gave the novices a chance to show what they could dc with a football in events which in. cluded passing for distance, punt ing for diltance, punting for ac. curacy, kicking off, and kicking extra points. The star of the proceedings wai Jim Clemmons who placed in foui of the five scheduled events. Hi took first place in the passing foi distance division, with Jim New bury second, and Rusty Stephens third. Buddy Qallaway won th( punting for distance event. I Bouknight placed second and Rust) Stephens again was third. Bill Davis captured the punting for accuracy phase, with Jin Clemmons second, and M. McMil lan third. In the kicking off foi distance A. Flowers took firsi place, E. Chapman, second, and Jim Clemmons third. Flowers als< kicked most extra points. B. Duprf was second, and third spot wai shared by E. Events en tered were volleyball, badminton, swimming, and tennis. Elinor Hull and Janet Karr rep resented the University at the As sociation meeting on Friday night preceeding the event. Mrs. Ver danna Craig and Mrs. Verna Farr, of the Woman's Physical Educa tion Department, accompanied the group. Mary Philbrick lost in singles to Winthrop, and Christine George and Emily Whit aker lost in doubles to the same school. The swimming team, which took second place in the meet, was comprised of Dolly Steinberg, Cas sandra Manda, Mary Ann Eldred, and Jo Ann Delinger. They per formed in the relay races, form swimming in the crawl, trudgen crawl, back, side, and breast stroke, racing in the breast stroke, 40 yd. free style, back stroke, and indi vidual medley. Frosh Play4 At Melton 'I Coach Frank Johnson's Biddif team will play the Citadel Bull puppies here tonight at Melton Field. The Biddies have won only one game all year and will be at tempting to take this one before running into the Wake Forest frosh next week. This will be the fourth game for the frbsh. They opened the season with a loss to Miami, then won from Clemson, and last week drop ped their second decision of the year to Furman's Little Wind. The Citadel has reportedly come up with one of the best freshman teams at that school in a number of years. They will throw a strong running game agaitst Carolina's vaunted line. Carolina, however, will have something of a running attack themselves, with Hootie Johnson and Jack Kerchner leading the way. Citadel onight Pasky May See Offensive Action At Tech Saturday The morale of the University supporters was boosted last Fri day night ,when quarterback Ed Pasky led the Gamecocks in a 95 yard scoring jaunt that produced Carolina's only touchdown in the game taken by the Miami univer sity Hurricanes, 13-7. Pasky is a senior this year, but has anotner year of eligibility., Pasky, who had been used pri marily on defense, took over the 4uarterbacking duties Friday when it was evident that quarterback Bo Hagan was having a bad night. .ohn Boyle, who pulled out of school a few weeks ago, left the (amecocks in a precarious situa tion until Pasky came through.
