Ho-hum, the state fair game is over. It's getting kind of
monotonous. If our figures are correct this makes three out
of the last four State Fair glames that our Birds have won.
Clemson,.,arely makes it interesting anymore.
Our congrats to the Birds for .their fine performance.
Two men on the Gamecock team should stand a chance of i
making All-Southern this year. We mean Bishop Strickland I
and Red Wilson of course. Strickland is probably the best.

of the great Charlie Justice and deserves a place on the
mythical eleven. Barring injuries that may slow him down

finest all-around end to come out of a South Carolina school
in a long number of years. Clemson will probably verify this.
A lot of people are to be congratulated on their fine
handling of the details which made this one of the smoothest
executed state fair games in history.
First, of course, is the Carolina coaching staff which
pointed their team for this game and came through with
success. Coach Henry Bartos especially did a fine job with
the line. The defensive Gamecotks stopped the Clemson run
ning attack cold except on two or three occasions. Fred
Cone, the Tiger's touted fullback, gained only six yards
in six tries with the ball! Ray Mathews and the rest of the
Tiger backfield did little better.
Next in line would be ticket Manager Dick Anderson and
his staff. Ticket sales were handled in a mature fashion
and there was little bickering. One fan, a lawyer from Ben
nettsville, did gripe when he received tickets in the end
zone but after the game he was all apologies as evidenced
by the letter Anderson received from him this week. This
fan writes in to the Bam Club,
"I raised hell when you sent me tickets in the end zone
for the Carolina-Clemson game and am writing to plead
guilty to being entirely wrong, and. asking for the mercy
of the court. I believe I saw the whole game better .than I
would have from the 50-yard line. I sat in the end zone one

The Gamecocks will be In for a tough. time tomorrow.
Maryland has one of the best teams In the Conference. But
most of the injuries should be healed and Coach Rex Enright
will have most of his squad at full strength. Tommy Woodlee
is definitely out, but Vic Hendrickson will be back to balance
the scales.
The picture of Enright being carried off the field by the
,team after the Clemson game may appear In a national
magazine in the near future.

One defeat alone would not hurt
he Tarheels chances too much but
he North Carolinians still have a
ough road to travel and are not

Jotre Dame. The Tar Heels also
ould fall before one or more other
ipponents before the end of the
eason.
Only the magic attached to the
tame of Charley Justice can save
he Tar Heels from spending their
irst New Year's Day in three
rears at home.
Duke, riding the crest of four
vins and one loss, could edge into
ne of the bik bowls by going the
-est of the way undefeated. But
he chances of them getting past
uch teams as the Tar' Heels and
Wake Forest are slim indeed.
Maryland, the other contender
or the Conference crown is given

When a record breaking crowd

ignificance. The record for the

*The victories that year were

Davidson, and the Citadel. In ad

In 1914 Carolina won five, lost

An identical record was marked

All three of the Conference lead
ers will have their hands full this
week. North Carolina will be sask

stride and its national rating at
the expense of the University of
Tennessee Volunteers at Chapel
Hill tomorrow afternoon.
The Blue Devils have their
toughest assignment of the year at
Atlanta, Ga., tomorrow against
Georgia Tech. This game could
well prove just- how strong the
Devils are an'd may have some
thing to do with establishing the
Dukes as a first or second rate
power.
Maryland may find itself faced
with too big a task at the hands
of the South Carolina Gamecocks
at College Park.
The ,game of the week in South
Carolina will be the Clemson-Wake
Forest affair at Clemson tomor
row. The Tigers, suffering from
the Big Thursday defeat by South
Carolina, will be trying to regain
some of their lost prestige. But
the Wakes seem to have found
themselves in swamping William
and Mary last week and they are
favored to take the Tigers.
The complete schedule:
Tonight - LaFayette at George
Washington; The Citadel vs. Wof

Saturday afternoon - South
Carolina at Maryland; William and
Mary at University of Richmond;
Davidson at Washington and Lee;
North Carolina State vs. Virginia
