MAY HERBERT The game with North Carolina may not have been such a brilliant success, but the fraternities certainly made the week-end scrumptious for their visiting brothers from the tar-heel state. The Sigma Nu house was open over the week-end to UNC visitors. Some of them went with the boys and their dates Saturday night for a little partying out at the Windy Hill club. . . . Frank Owen took some of the Sigma Nu's down to Charleston after the party for a week-end cruise. Fortunately, all of them came back Sunday none the worse for the partying and the tossing waves. Kappa Sigma had not only visitors from North Carolina, but had some of their own alumni back for a visit. Present at a party at the Pinewood club were Ed McMillan, K. C. Talbot, Tommy Griffin, and Pat Cox. Phi Kappa Sigma held a drop-in in the Palmetto Room of the Wade Hampton hotel, following the game. Eddie Helms' orchestra played the Alma Mater and the fraternity songs. Brothers Phi Kappa Sigma's from N. C., alumni, and invited rushees were among those present with their dates. Visit ing alumni were Joe Askew, Bob Swindler, Don Smoth, Os bourne Rhodes, George Caughman, Cy Ameen, and all the recent Columbia alumni. Afterwards, everyone went out to the Hollywood club to continue the party. Watch for the Kappa Sigma sweetheart, to be announced SOON I The story and the picture of the sweetheart will be run in the Gamecock. Miss Eunice Stevenson, former exchange student from Nova Scotia, visited in Sims this week-end. She is now acting as dean of women at Lander college and is teaching English. Miss Elsa Salvo, a student here last year and now at Roper Hospital in Charleston. also visited in Sims Saturday and Sunday. Miss Angela Barrington, a '49 alumna, visited An drea Chandler Friday, Saturday and Sunday. She is teaching at Fort Bragg. The Sigma Nu's had two of their members to get mar- r ried this summer. Jack Crosby married Genevieve Davis, t and Buddy Ladd wedded Flora McKnight. The entire chapter went around to serenade both of the girls after the meeting Thursday night. Pi Kappa Phi's had a post-game party Saturday evening t in honor of the North Carolina Pi Kappa Phi's down for the game. A touring party that night included all the Columbia night spotu ... and we understand that a couple of the boys' cars had to be pushed back from this excursion. Llewlyn Fields received a diamond from Bobby Hart, Sat urday night. She transferred from Flora MacDonald this t fall. The Lambda Chi Alpha's and their guests took in the Jef-i ferson hotel ballroom after the Saturday game. Lucius Weathers and his' band played. During intermission the alumni were recognized along with the brothers from Gamma Nu chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha at UNC. Also during in termnission Bob Carpenter put on a skit, "Margaret O'Riety." A Some fraternity songs were sung, and the brothers from| UNC entertained with a song. Pi Kappa Phi Sidney Floyd's ears are sprouting violets. He's now pinned. Of course, say his fraternity brothers, he claims it's puppy love . . . just gave her his pledge pin, you know. Sigma Nu pledges this week elected Jack Walthers as president; Lockhart McLendon as vice-president; Russell 0 McGowan, treasurer; and Guy Nichols as secretary. There is a ghoul loose in Sims lately. About two days after school started, a figure wrapped in a sheet, with a devil's t face completing the ensemble, strolled into all the rooms on second and third floors. But that was nothing. About a week ago, Ann Chandler walked into her room, rambled around for a few minutes, and suddenly looked down At her feet lay what appeared to be a corpse, with its i face covered with paint. After a moment of hesitation, dur ing which the glassy brown eyes staring up from the floor never wavered, Ann recovered her usual poise, and simply laughed. By the time the corpse arose, Ann's composure I was fully recovered, and she took the thing as the gag it was (or at least was meant to be). This, howsomever, was not the case in another room in Sims. The spook walked into Gloria Walker's room, and the white face with Its lineal of mascara and blotches of lip stick obviously startled her slightly. For a full five minutes, she let out the most unearthly, blood-.curdling screams that the coed students had ever heard. She immediately fired an ash tray at the spook, who dodged as If it were very muich alive. The last we heard Mrs. Brockette was doing a little detec tive work to find the ghost who walks.
