Sumter Pool
Miss Verna Farmer's Aqua Cir
cus routine last Thursday and Fri
day nights was such a success that
she was asked to have her .aqua
belles and beaus perform for the
opening of the Elk's pool in Sum
ter May 20 and to feature the open
ing of Columbia's Municipal pool
May 27.
Twenty Carolina girls plus How
ard King, Shorty Hilliard and
Rabbitt Daniels, male divers, will
feature the hour festival at Sum
ter. They will combine with 30
Sumter swimmers and perform
from 5:80 to 7:80 p. m. Mim
Farmer said she would not use her
candlelight swim, but that she was
workingeon several new routines
to offset it.
The swimmers will be entertain
ed with a supper by the Elks after
the pageant and will be guests of
honor at the Elks' coronation ball
Friday night.
The following Friday, May 27,
the swimmers, 20 strong, will be
the main attraction at the opening
of the Columbia pool. The show
will be featured by the colorful
candlelight swim. The girls swim
in a circle around a darkened pool
with candles in their hands and
spiral in and out making various
patterns.
This is the first year that Miss
Farmer's swimmers have been ask
ed to perform out of town. Sumter
sent four delegates to last Friday
night's performance, which was
shown before a packed house. Af
ter being favorably impressed by
the students' exhibition, the city
officials requested the aqua belles
and beaus to open its new Elks
pool.
All of the swimmers, except the
divers, are members of Miss Far
mer's swimming classes. The div
ers are the only males in the show.
