Much A( Lambda Intramural basketball went into its second week of torrid competi tion with 21 games being played at the university field house and gymnasium at a fast pace of three games a night. Probably the biggest upset of the year came Tuesday night when Lambda Chi Alpha beat Kappa Alpha, fraternity intramural cham pions last year, who were unde feated in league play for two sea sons. Lambda Chi made it a deci sive 33-24 victory over the heavily favored champions. It was the fine offensive play ing of Dick Fagan that sparked Lambda Chi to its second straight win and put them on top of fra ternity league 2. Sigma Alpha Epsilon led fra ternity league 1 after Wednesday night's games, Law School and BSU were tied for lead in the num ber I independent league, Pres ton First West led independents number 2 and ROTC led independ ent league three. All these teams had two wins without a loss. Results of games from Febru ary 10-16 follow: Kappa Alpha (43) Sigma Nu (26) Bobby Rogers led the KA's to an easy 43-26 win Wednesday of last week in the gym. Rogers scored 12 of his team's points. BSU (20) Law School (14) BSU beat Law School 20-14 in a slow game at the gym Wednesday night of last week. Rubin and Dutch Reilly had seven points for BSU while Goldberg scored eight for the losers. Preston First West (65) Ten. 1 and 5 (36) Bo Ilagan and Mayhew Finklea, with 24 and 22 points respectively, led Preston 1st West to an over whelming 65-36 victory over Tene ments 1 and 5 Wednesday night of last week in the gym. Tenement 29 (79) Left Wingers (17) The all-lefthanded Left Wingers took a 79-17 spanking from Tene ment 29 at the gymnasium Thurs day night. King and Dixon Rog ers, with 22* and 20 points respec tively, led the Deacons while Mac Anderson scored 10 for the losers. Preston Third East (32) Newman Club (25) Preston Third had a rough time with the taller Newman Clubbers, but managed to outlast them 32-25 Thursday night in the gym. Buddy Bultman of Newman Club was high scorer with 10 points. ROTC (39) Tenement 25 (38) Led by John Bates and Bill Kocher, who scored 20 and 17 points respectively, ROTC edged out Tenement 25, 39-38 Thursday night in the Field house. Johnson and Schooler had eight points for the losers. SAE (32) Phi Sigma Kappa (16) SAE had little trouble taking Phi Sigma Kappa 32-16 Thursday night in the field house. George I)ial and Lartique Riley of SAE, with eight points apiece, were high scorers for the evening. Bill Caugh man scored six for Sigma Kappa. Pi Kappa Alpha (34) Kappa Sigma (29) Walter Roberts and Johnny Sykes put on an individual scoring duel Thursday night at the field house, but Roberts' Pi Kappa Alphas won 34-29. Roberts scored 17 points against Sykes' 18. Kappa Sigma (32) Sigma Nu (26) Johnny Sykes, with 16 points, led Kappa Sigma to a 32-26 victory over Sigma Nu Friday night at the gymnasium. Jim Fisher scored 11 points for Sigma Nu. Carovets (32) Ten. 2 and 3 (26) Carovets edged out Tenements 2 and 3, 32-26, Friday night at the gymi. Bob Swanson was high scorer for the Carovets with 10 points while John Belissary scored eight for the tenements. Left Wingers Forfeited to Tene ment 2.0 Sigma Chi (23) Phi Eovion i (15) Lod by Jack Parrish, Sigma Chi took a tight defensive game from the Phi Eps 23-15 Friday night at the field house. Gerald Levine scored eight for the Phi Eps. Lambda Chi Alpha (36) Phi Kappa Sigma (12) Lambda Chi easily beat Phi Kappa Sigma 36-12 Friday night in the field house. BSU (33) Ten. 14-30 (15) BSU easily beat Tenements 14 30, 33-15 Friday night in the field house. Paul Cook's 12 points was high for BSU while Felder scored eight for the tenements. Tenement 16 (48) Ten. I and 5 (29) Pete Booth led Tenement 16 (Block C) to an easy 48-29 win over Ten. 1 and 5 Friday night in the gym. Booth scored 24 points to take high-1coring honors while Jim Pinkerton helped the Block C's attack with 14. Joe McClellan scored 10 points for the losers. Tenement 25 (38) Blue and (ray (28) Tlenecment 25 got a close 38-28 decision over the Blue and Gray Friday night in the gym. Tony Natoli and Johnson led the tene ments with nine points each. SAE (54) ATO (17) Lartique Riley paced SAE to a decisive 54-17 victory over ATO Friday night at the gym. Riley scored 18 points. Keith Marshall had six for the losers. Lambda Chi Alpha (33) Kappa Alpha (24) Dick Fagan, with 14 points, led Lambda Chi to an upset vttory over Kappa Alpha Tuesday night in the gym. It was Kappa Alpha's first league loss in two years. Lee Allen scored eleven points for the Insers. Pi Kappa Phi (26) Sigma Chi (21) Pi Kappa Phi defeated Sigma Chi 26-21 in a slow game on the University high floor Tuesday night. Law School (43) Maxey (27) The Law School had little trouble Wednesday night as they beat Maxcy 43-27 in the gym. Barrow scored 19 points. for the Lawyers and Joe Wimberly made nine for Maxcy. NIOTC (30) Preston Third East (30) Bates and Kochen, with 20 points each, led the NROTC team to a 48-30 win over Preston Third East Wednesday night at the gym. Tur ner, Magoulas and Huntington each zot seven points for Preston. ANSEN.. ays..I' ~'re really MILlDER h. satisfying taste Heavy Sprit On Tap For The Intramural Department has outlined one of the heaviest ath letic programs in its history this semester - scheduling everything from horseshoes to softball, with a movie film thrown in for good measure. Director Joe Grugan, with the assistance of Dick Singleton, Char lie Goforth, et al, is planning to show World Series films of the 1948 classic and Double Play Kings of the American League by Lew Fonseca at 8:15 p. m. February 25 at Drayton Hall. There will be no charge for admission. - Entries are being received by Grugan for a horseshoe tournament which is scheduled to be held on or around February 22 (Washing ton's birthday). This will be run off on Davis Field and winners will be presented medals. Winners in all intramural competition will receive trophies presented by the Intramural Department. But this Is the only rest for Grugan and his crew until early in June. On April 1 a track meet, with the coveted Farr Mile trophy at stake, will be run off on Melton Field. Three days later, April 14, intramural softball will start and it will run through the first of June. While softball is going on, a box ing tournament has tentatively been set for April 8 and 9 at the field house. The tournament will be open to all students and box ing team members will act as coaches. Just after the boxing tourna ment, the entry list for a golf tour nament will be closed. Entries are being received by Grugan's office now. The site for the tournament hasn't been decided yet, but it will be held around April 18 and will '>e match play. It is sponsored through the cooperation of the Na tional Golf Foundation, which will donate certificates and medals of award in recognition of meritorious performance.
