Intramural 4 Get Off To I The 1948 intramural footba start at 2 p. m. Monday at I four close ball games played pendent leagues. Tenements 9-10 started the ball rolling by beating Carovets 27-0 at Melton Field. BSU blanked tene ments one and five 7-0 at Melton and tenement 25 slammed Town Boys 31-7. The fraternity league had one game, Pi Kappa Alpha squeezed by Phi Kappa Sigma 2-0 on Davis field. Tenements 9.10 (27), Carovets (0) B. B. Huskey passed tenements nine-ten io a 27-G victory over Carovets Moiiday. The tenements scored in the first quarter when Nick Nichols took a long pass from Huskey. Nichols ran about 50 yards for the next touchdown in the third quarter and two more passes in late periods salted the game away. Tenement 25 (31), Town Boys (7) Lloyd Huntington passed tene ment 25 to an easy 31-7 win over Town Boys Monday afternoon. Pat Barter was on the receiving end most of the game while Jimmy Cobb led the ground attack. Cobb ran 45 yards in the last quarter for the best of the game. Al Shu ler was best on defense for the winners. BSU (7), Tenements 1-5 (0) Bill Huckaby made a brilliant catch of George Rentz' desperation pass with 30 seconds to play to give Baptist Student Union a 7-0 win over tenements 1-5 Monday afternoon. The tenement team, bolstered by the passing and '.ek ing of quarterback Charlie Steph enson, held the Baptists in check throughout, until the last minute of play. Town Boys forfeited to R.O.T.C. and Fresh man Y forfeited to tenement 24Y2. PiKA (2), Phi K S (0) In the first few minutes of play, Dan Winesett, of Pi Kappa Alpha broke through Phi Kappa Sigma's line to trap Charles Hutto behind the goal line for a safety. It was the only score of the game for neither team could click offensive ly. Jeff Long captained for the Phi Kappa Sigma team and George Patrick led the Pikers. Pi K Phi (22), Phi Sigma Kappa (0) Phi Sigma Kappa, with only a six man team, fell victim to a pow erful Phi Kappa Phi team, 22-0. Dick Singleton scored the first TD with a run around end and later passed to Burt Orr for another. The first extra point failed but Bill Brown made the second on a run. Bill Eason blocked a Phi Sigma Kappa punt for a safety. rhe final touchdown was effected by a sleeper play, with Burt Orr receiving a pass from Bill Brown. Phi Sigma forfeited at the end f the half. KA (6), Lambda Chi Alpha (0) Kappa Alpha's Billy Nichols completed a 40-yard pass to Bobby Rogers late in the third quarter to defeat Lambda Chi Alpha 6-0 Tuesday afternoon. Bob Wester field, taliback for Lambda Chi, did most of the kicking for his team, one being a beautiful 65-yard punt. His passing was also creditable. Pi Lambda Phi (15). Phi Epsilon Pi (0) Pi Lambda Phi defeated Phi Ep silon Pi 15-0 WednesdRy in a close and hard-fought ball game. The two teams are keen rivals, but the Pi Ep's were poorly organized. Herbert Drucker tagged Herb Stanier behind tlie goal for a saf ety early in the second quarter. A little later Kligman got a free kick and ran 50 yards for a touchdown. Herbert Cone scored the final touchdown by taking a pass from Kligman. Charlie Bernstein play ed a good game for the Pi Eps at center. Harrison, who returned Jo school this year, Steve Wadiak, freshman breakaway back, and linemen Red Wilson and Ed Dew are considered the outstanding prospects for the award. Harrison was hampered by injuries this year but was still one of the Gamecock stars.
