Mountaineers
May Be Rough
Foes For USC
The South Carolina Gamecocks,
having dropped their last two
starts, will again run into big op
position this week when they meet
the Mountaineers of the University
of West Virginia in Morgantown,
W. Va., Saturday afternoon.
Despite his losses to Pitt and
Penn State, two topnotch football
elevens, Dud. DeGroot, head coach
of the Mountaineers, has revealed
a potent offensive team. Against
Washington and Lee last week, a
traditional rival of West Virginia,
the Mountaineers ran up a total
of 290 yards, with nothing but a
ground attack. DeGroot flashed a
revived offensive unit including
Alva Richmond at left half and
Pete Zinaich at fullback. Running
the team will be Jimmy Walthall
at quarterback, who not only is a
fine offensive signal caller, but
can throw the ball if passes are
necessary.
The defensive half of the Moun
taineers "unit system" is composed
of Frank Reno and Larry Cica
relli at ends; Ralph Main and Gene
Remenar at tackles, and Lou Biru
rakis and Fred Sturek at guards.
The offensive team employs a
variation of the T-formation, with
an end and half-back in motion
on some plays, and either of the
two in motion on others.

The Big Bruiser
Bill Estes, sophomore tackle from Rock Hill. is a big reason why
the Gamecocks were unscored on for six consecutive games prior to
the Tulane affair. The big bruiser is one of the defensive tackles
Carolina has had in recent years.
