The 'Carolina track team is
track meet to be held in Clint
competition for the Gamecocki
Clemson Tigers, who lost a du
ago.
Scooter Rucks is the principal
hope for the Birds as he is ex
pected to break at least one state
record in the meet. 'His marks of
21.2 and 47.7 in the 22Q And 440
in dual meets this year tab bim
as the outstanding man in the
meet. Rucks is being touted for a
position on the United States
Olympic team and 'quite a bit may
rest on his performance in this
and the Southern Conference meet.
Ed Coleman, is the only other
Carolina man expected to break a
state record in the meet. Coleman
has reiched a distance of 49 .feet,
3% Inches with. the shot put and
135 feet, 5% inches with the dis
cus.
Carolina will be handicapped in
the meet by the loss of Droopy
Atwell, the top man in the high
hurdles,. who is still sidelined by
a bad knee.

By JEM NEWBURY
The Carolina team breezed- to
an 84% to 46% victory over the
Blue Hosemen of P.C. on the Clin
ton track Sfturday in the last dual
meet of the year.. McCutchen and
Watts of P. C., both dash men, lost
their first races of the year to
Drews and Rucks.
In the 100 yard dash, Drews
slipped .by McCutchen of P.C., who
- was favored to win, in the last few
- yards of the race to break the
tape. The time was 10.0 secs., .1
see. faster than the Clemson time
and the best the Carolina sprinter
has- been clocked at thus far.
"Scooter" Rucks captured two
a first places-the 220 and 440 yd.
dashes and was pushed more than
t he has been this year, in the 440.
e Rucks, displaying his usual flow
d ing stride crossed the finish line
15 yards ahead of Watts, of P.C.,
who ran very impressively in the
carlier part of the race.
. Wayne Brackett took first place
g positions in both the mile and two
y mile events. BrackeLL, who was
e not pushed in either race, finish
t ed strong and by a good margin
e over the other runners.
. Olin McGill placed second in
a the high hurdles and was in per
haps his best form of the year.
, Charlie McGill, who previously
, ran in the low hurdles and jump
t ed in the high and broad jump.
was lost to the team because of

g Jim Meriwether looked very good
