Looking Around By JANE DOWE Spring vacations came last week and took their toll of news from fellow .colleges around the state. Furman A strong Communist group, with Tommy Kay as its lead?, has emerged on the campus. Stuclents returning from the holidays found new dormitories ready for occu pation, and the only pin-ups per mitted are pictures of the party leaders. Clemson With the April Fool's issue of "The Tiger" ("The Compost Courier") came some news. Dan May, of Calhoun Falls, has been elected editor of the 1949 Taps. This weekend will see the military ball, with the Brigadiers playing. On April 12 the Minneapolis Sym phony orchestra will play in the Field House. "Clemson is now rated one of the most honest schools in the nation." So says the April Fool's edition. STUDENT The Gamecock below publishes the remaining articles of the pres ent constitution of the university student body. The articles and sec tions preceding those printed herc were carried in last week's paper Section 7. To be elected a can didate must receive a majority ol the votes cast. In case no candi date shall receive a majority oi the votes cast. a special electior shall be held at a date set by the student council with respect tc Section 3 of this Article. All ballots shall be kept in the college vault for a pe riod of five days following the date of election. They shall then be turned over to the President of the student body who shall im mediately destroy them. In case an election is contested, notice must be filed with the student council' within four days after the date of election. The student council shall then take charge of the ballots and shall investigate the charges of the persons,contesting the elec tion. The council shall order a new election if it deems wise, and the result of thp new election shall be jconsidered final. Section 9. The terms of office of successful candidates for the offices of the University of South Carolina shall begin not later than the third Wednesday immediately following the first Wednesday ofj election week. ARTICLE XII By Laws Section 1. Section 2. Business may be transacted by a majority of those present in a student body meeting provided that at least twenty-fivc (26) members of the student bod5 are present. Section 3. It shall be the duty oj the secretary-treasurer of the stu dent body to keep the copies up to-date with respect to amend ments. Section 4. 'The gtests will return by the same route Friday, April 30. ,,n the day of arrival there will be a reception and banquet. The next day, April 27, will include lectures, tours, lunch with mid shipmen, a flight exhibition of Navy combat tactics, and open dis cussions. There will be a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico on the USS Wright, observing student pilot carrier landing qualifications, and organized tours in small groups conforming to individual desires. This will take place April 28 and 29. The trip was originally planned for the latter part of February, but had to be postponed. Thirty institutions are to be represented.
