April 1 is the deadline for ap
plications for Carolina Scholar
ships and Fellowships according
to W. H. Callcott, dean of the
graduate school.
Students selected for University
Fellowships must have promise of
being able to pursue graduate
work with the field of study be
ing unlimited. The fellowships
carry a stipend of $400-$80.
University assistantships carry
a stipend of $400-$800. The stu
dent must have the ability to
serve as lab assistant or as a
reader of quiz papers. The field
of study is also unlimited. "This
training Is valuable for students
without teaching experience," said
Dean Calleott.
The stipend of the A. Foster
McKissick Memorial Fellowship
is based on the interest of $5,000.
Preference for this fellowship will
be given to a graduate of the uni
versity school of engineering.
The J. Rion McKissick Memorial
Fellowship carries a stipend of

versity, were installed as Patrons
of the fraternity.

thews, an alumna of the univer
sity and teacher of piano at St.
Matthews.
Following the installation cere
monies, a reception was held for
the national officers and members
of Delta Mu in Sims music room.
Delta Oricron is a professional
music fraternity, founded in 1909
at the Cincinnati Conservatory of
Music, with its membership limit
ed to students of music or profes
sional musicians. Delta Omicron
installs Delta Mu as its thirty
fourth chapter, its most recent
installation of the fraternity in
the Southeast.
$300. Either graduate or under
graduate students may apply for
this fellowship, with selection
based on the applicant's future
usefulness to South Carolina.
