Intramural Ru
(Editor's note: The first in
stallment of these rules govern
ing intramural athleticp was pre
sented to you in the previous is
sue of THE GAMECOCK and
the remainder is published today).
A. If a team or contestant fails
to appear at the scheduled place
within fifteen (15) minutes after
the scheduled time for a contest,
the official may declare the con
test forfeited to the team or con
testant ready to play.
B. A team automatically for
feits any contest in which it uses
an ineligible player and the ineli
gible man is barred from compe
tition in that sport for the rest
of that season.
ARTICLE IV.-Postponements.
A. No contest shall be post
poned except under the following
conditions:
1. By order of the Director
of Intramurals.
2. In case of adverse weather
conditions.
3. With the unanimous agree
ment of both team managers
and with the approval of the
Director of Intramurals.
ARTICLE V.-Protests.
A. All protests other than those
concerning eligibility shall be
made on the field of play.
B. Protests concerning eligibil
ity shall be made in writing to
the Director of Intramurals with
in twenty-four (24) hours after
the close of the contest in ques
tion.

For Indoor Me
The University track team was
forced indoors early this week but
continued its daily workouts un
der Coach Sterling Dupre in pre
paration for the Southern *con
ference indoor nfeet Feb. 27 at
Chapel Hill, N. C.
Carolina meets Georgia there
on April 3 in the first outdoor
meet of the season. Although the
schedule is not complete at this
time, the first home meet will be
around April 10, according to
Dupre.
He said the team will miss
Jimmy Ratliff, hurdler; Jim Hun
nicutt, sprinter; Ray Wilson, shot
putter, and Bird-dog Thornton,
distance man.
Captain Norman "Scooter"
Rucks will head the list of can
didates and will specialihe in the
440-yard dash and the 220-yard
dash. James "Droopy" Atwell, al
ternate captain, will lead the
hurdlers.
Ray McKenzie, hampered by a
bad knee last season, will add
strength to the 220- and 440-yard
dashes. Bill Buck and Ernie Law
horne will again be on hand to

dependent Intramural Coun
cils.
A. The intramural athletic 'rep
resentatives from each Fraternity
form the Fraternity Intramural
Council. The Independent repre
sentatives form a similar council.
ARTICLE VII.-Awards.
A. Suitable trophies and indi
viduai awards Will be made to
the winners in the Fraternity Di
vision and Independent Division
b, the Intramural Sports Depart
ment.
ARTICLE VIII.-Managers.
A. Each fraternity and inde
pendent team must elect an ath
letic representative or manager.
This man is to serve as "contact
man" between the team and the
Intramural Department. An effi
cient, alert manager will:
1. Enter teams in all sports
sponsored by the department
before the closing (late fo en
tries.
2. Notify team members re
gardling the time, date and place
of all contests and see that they
are on time and ready to play.
3. Attend all scheduled meet
ings of the intramural council.

at the university March 5 and 6
went on sale Tuesday at the Ath
letic ticket office in the field
house.
Student tickets sell for $1.20,
general admission, while approxi
mately 800 ringside seats will be
available for $3, all on a first
come, first served basis.
No student tickets will be sold
after Feb. 28 and all tickets are
for one night only.

Baseball Team
Begins Drills,
Light Practice

Baseball Coach Ted Petoskey
was greeted with 26 candidates
for mound .duty last Monday and
wasted no time in putting the
pitchers to work in what was
Carolina's weakest department
last, season. The hurlers have
been throwing lightly for the past
week and a half-just one week
ahead of the outfielders who re
ported Monday.
Infielders will report for work
outs Monday at 2 p. m. in the
field house. Most of the work
outs to date liave been held in the
field house because of the severe
weather; however, Petoskey indi
cated that as soon as the weather
permits he will have the team
out-of-doors.
Carolina will have a wide gap
in centerfield to fill since Cap
tain Earl Dunham, .300 hitter and
a bulwark on defense last year,
has graduated.
Dean Padgett, hard-hitting first
baseman, is ineligible and Sonny
Way, dependable catcher, is a
doubtful candidate.
