Norwood, college of arts and sciences, received this week. Dean Norwood said each fellow ship is worth $2,600- and tenable for one year at the chosen uni versity. Although no age re quirements are made, preferehce will be given to applicants who received bachelor's degrees since June, 1943, and to those now in their last year of undergraduate work who expect to receive the 11 bachelor's degree by July 1, 1948. Candidates must submit evi dence of distipetion. in a recog nized branch of learning and also present a definite schedule of study or research proposed to be a carried out at Oxford or Cam a bridge, Dean Norwood said. 5 "The Charles and Julia Henry fund was founded by the will of the late Lady Julia Henry of Eng land to cement friendsliip bonds e between the British Empire and the United States by providing j.fInwhpr- ri-izh%u=nts at American universities and Ameri t cans at British universities," the dean declared, , Applications and detailed infor n mation may be obtained from ' Dean Norwood's office in Maxey. it 5 n Education Training Films Sent By USC - Total 3,000 Weekly Approximately 3,000 educa tional training films are sent out each week by the university audio visual department to grammar and secondary schools and to col leges in the southeast, according to Mrs. G. E. Cromer, film li brarian. Agriculture, government and science films comprise the major part of the film collection of 1,100. Also ini the department ar e films on animal life, .history, and major nations of the world. Mrs. Cromer said that films had been sent to schools in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Caro lina, Tennessee and Louisiana be sides in South Carolina. He has been a member of thi South Carolina Bar Associatioi since 1908 and the American as sociation since 1910. He is 4 member of Phi Delta Phi lega fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, an the American Law Institute. Dr Frierson has served as presiden of the South Carolina Tuberculo sis association, director of t11 South Carolina Asociation of th Blind, and secretary of the stand Ing committee of the diocese o Upper South Carolina. Smith an n nounced this week that a ne . method of appropriating funds t( the university by the state woul be initiated in the fiscal yeai 1948-49. Smith said that in the past we have estimated the operating cosi t for the coming year, and the tota income from all fees. Kelly, marshal, said this week that the university sold 171,000 pounds of scrap paper in the year 1947. The apartments will be allotted: to veterans according to their ti place on the eligibility list begun in 1946.
