President Norman M. Smith an
n nounced this week that a ne

the university by the state woul
be initiated in the fiscal yeai
1948-49.
Smith said that in the past we

the estimated operating cost and
the difference is the amount the
state was asked to appropriate
This year we are doing the same
thing, he said, but the state in
stead of approximating the dif.

the income of the university will
be turned over to the state treas.

On the face of this anniropria.

is appropriating the total amount
but actually it is still the differ

estimated income.
The estimated cost of operatior
for 1948-49 is $2,852,161.80 whilh

the total cost of operating thi

Apartments
Twelve of the 54 apartmeni
Carovet apartment project for
completed and the remaining 42
occupancy by Feb. 1, President
this week.
Smith said that the only dif
ficulty of immediate occupancy isi
the shortage of fuel oil. The only,
means of heating is with an oil
heater and because of the short
age, dealers will probably be re-1
luctant to take on new customers;
at this time.
The 12 apartments are in two!
buildings of six units each. Each;s
apartment contains two bedrooms, a
living room, kitchenette, and bath. 1
They are furnished with an icei.
box, oil heater, hot water tank
and an oil stove for cooking.
The apartments will be allotted:
to veterans according to their ti
place on the eligibility list begun
in 1946. Students whose names
appear at the top of the list will c
receive cards through the post of- tf
fice notifying them that the apart
ment they requested is ready for
occupancy. If notification is not ti
answered within 10 days the next c<
eligible students will be notified. ti
Rent for the apartments is
based on the total income of the'
student and his wife, ranging
from $17 to $45 per month, in- di
fhIding utilities. s<
