About all we seem to hear these days is "I don't want
her; you can have her. She's too fat for me !" A jolly
little tune it is, but it makes us wonder if that reflects the
general -attitude-in which case we give out with the fol
lowing warning:
Too many cooks can spoil the broth,
And if it's truth you're seeking,
Too much broth can spoil the cooks
Figuratively speaking.
PARTIES AS USUAL
The sem'ester wears on, and it won't be long now till the
holidays begin. Right about now is when all the fun starts,
and concentration from here on out is on merry-making.
Here's proof of that:
Kappa Sigs threw a party at the Woman's Club Thursday
night of last week, while PiKA's held a smoker for rushees.
KA's had a supper for new pledges Tuesday night after
pledging, and Pi Phi pledges entertained actives last night
out at Wedgewood Park. Kappa Sigs partied at the Peacock
Grill last Monday night, and Sunday they gathered at Doug
Broome's with Jimmy Dorsey present.
Guests of Esther Irick for a houseparty last weekend
were "Tillie" Young, Sue Gasque, Olive Long, Flora Mc
Knight, George Stanley, Mike Michel, Sidney Brandenburg,
and several others.
On the "future list" is a stag supper planned by PiKA for
next Monday night. Alums and actives will gather in the
private dining room of the Market Restaurant. KA's and
their dates will breakfast at the Plaza Oriental after the KA
formal tonight. Many KA's from out of town are expected
for the dance. Kappa Sigmas will give a party for their
new pledges next week, and Lambda Chis will honor their
pledges with a Christmas party December 17.
Greenwood County Club members are looking forward to
the Christmas ball which will be given December 24 at
the Oregon Hotel in Greenwood. Carolina students and
alums will attend. Pi Kappa Phi will entertain fifty children
from the Epworth Orphanage at a Christmas party De
cember 19 at the Broad River Country Club. Pi Phis will
give a Santa Claus party for twenty-five more children from
Epworth next Tuesday.
Chi O coffee will be given Sunday in honor of Dr. Geisen
heimer of the economics department, faculty advisor to the
chapter. Lambda Chis are making plans for a masquerade
ball, Mardi Gras style, early next semester.
Now wearink the Phi Kappa Sigma pin of John Bum
gardner is Judy Ann Salley of Columbia College. Newly
married are Bob Smith of Bennettsville and Ruth Caughman
of West Columbia.
VISITS, TO AND FRO
District president L. A. McCall of PiKA visited the chap
ter here this week. Chi Omega entertained Mrs. James
Neary of Miami, chapter visitor, last week-end. Visiting
Kappa Sigs were J. B. Heatherly, who came up for the week
end, and Stuart Gregg, who attended the Jitnmy Dorsey
dance.
Irene Stern, AEPhi, visited in Florida last week. Among
the Pi Kappa Phis who attended the Rose Ball given by
their chapter at Furman Tuesday night were John Bunch,
Gettis Wood, Reese Daniel, Sam McKittrick, Gene Forrester,
Bill Link, and Hubert Carmichael.

The Gamma Triton Chapter of
Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity en
tertained their rushees with a
semi-formal on Thursday, Decem
ber 4, from 9 p. m. to 1 a. m.
in the ballroom of the Wade
Hampton Hotel. Music was fur
nished by Clarence Brazell's
Vagabonds from Columbia.
The ballroom was decorated
with the colors of the fraternity
and an enlarged emblem and
Greek letters were displayed.
Arnold Muir, chapter advisor,
spoke, telling the history of the
fraternity and the benefits that
would be derived from going into
this organization.
Officers and their dates were:
Henry Gaddis, president, with
Dorothy Sligh; Alec Bollin, vice
president, with Barbara McSwain;
and Dex Goodwin, treasurer, with
Mary Fripp. ,
The dance committee was com
posed of Alec Bollin, Earl Ziegler,
Bill Castles, Vic Johnson, and
Terry Smith.

Columbia from Charleston where
it was on display since Nov. 21.
The Southern California chapter
af the A.I.A. sponsors an annual
competition in architectural de
sign in an effort to stimulate in
terest in architecture, and to fur
ther its appreciation.
There are forty designs included
*n the exhibit containing several
:lassifications. They are: single
iwellings, multiple dwellings,
:ommercial buildings, industrial
>uildings, semi-public buildings,
yublic schools, memorials, site
>lans, and landscape architecture.
