"This Social Wheel has no squares."
All trains, buses, autos and planes going south last week
end carried anxious Carolina students to the Miami game,
Among those present in the Orange Bowl on Friday night
were: Lucie Whitescarver, Charlie DeLoach (he's working
in Miami now), Betty Dillard, Ed Potter, Jane Simmons
Ralph Conine, Rut Osborne, Callie Phillips, Othneil Weinges
Bucky Moore, John Copeland, Boots Clark, Mary Lee Pen
der, Mary Jumper, Bill Nichols, Adelaide Sox, Bobby Swy.
gert, Dan Fulmer, DeWitt Hopper, Chick Shiels, Hal Mid
diebrooks, John Evans, Marion Gibson, Belinda Collum, Bob
Horton, Pat King, Jo-Anne Dellinger, Doris Tuten, Sandy
Morrison and Vernon Taylor. Beth Billingim and Pat Lewis
assisted by "Rock" Yarborough, kept the Carolina cheering
section going.
Orchids to Dr. Penny, Dr. Waddell and others who gave
up their plane seats so that members of the Junior Varsity
could get back in time for the Jayvee game Saturday night,
Seems that some people just love to see Clemson get beat,
Carolina students attending the Georgia-Clemson game
were: Arnie Autler, Hyman Fechter, Harry Levy, Charles
Bernstein, all Phi Eps, and Calhoun Mays and Robert Ma
son, KA'. Martha Edens, ZTA, also made the trip and
stopped by her old alma mater, Brenau.
That gleaming beam seen on campus is none other thar
Peggy Spencer, Chi Omega, with her shining new diamond
from Bill Shelley.
The girls in Sims last Monday night heard the Sigma
Chi's serenading Amalie Stone, another ChiO, with the
Sweetheart Song. She's now wearing the pin of Bob Nance,
We wonder if Chapel Hill students got as confused by
the two Betsy Moores as we do, when they made their trip,
along with Mary Byrd and Snookie Kirkland, to the N.C.
Tenn. game and dance.
Last Friday night the ADPI's entertained with an in
formal drop-in.
Harold L. Lerman was initiated into Phi Epsilon Pi re
cently. Replacing him as the new president of the pledge
class is Arnold Gardner.
Just initiated into SAE are Nat Fant, Jack Kaneft, Sonny
Porter, and Max Spigner. Believing in starting the week
ends off right the SAE's threw a party at the Lexingtor
Hut last weekend and one at the Rathskellar this weekend
The ATO's also threw a party last weekend.
Libby McDaniel, past society editor, and now teaching
school in Kissimme, Fla., was seen in Miami still yelling foz
the Gamecocks. Riley Bradham, SAE alum, came by,to visil

As Carolina is celebrating Sadie
Hawkins' Day for the first time,
it is well that we examine the
position it plays at other schools.
Chapel Hill and Ole Miss vill
make good examples.
At U.N.C. Sadie Hawkins-hap
py coeds will draw names from a
fish bowl for their escorts to the
grand barn dance which is to
climax the day's celebration. All
week long couples sign up for the
honor to run in the big race. But
the racers are limited-only 300
couples can compete, so it's hurry,
hurry to see who- gets his name
in first.
The independent gentlemen are
also required to hand in their
names and the co-ed organizations
on campus guarantee to provide
all whose names are drawn with
an escort.
In true-to-life Dogpatch style,
a football game has been ar
ranged between F. U. and P. U.
They're even going to dress Dog
patch style!
Of course, all the family will, be
present to make everyone feel at
home. There'll be Li'l Abner,
Daisy Mae, Pappy and Mammy
Yokum and all the neighbors.
There's also a promise of a Dog
patch band.
As for Ole Miss, the students
are looking forwvard to their first
Sadie Hawkins celebration since
1940 with great anticipation.
Their paper, the Mississippian has
to say of the inatter:
"Sadie Hawkins' Day - that
fateful day in Dogpatch when
every female can set her sails
and light out for a male who, itf
he can't navigate with the speed
of a PT boat, will find himself
anchored for life in the sea of
matrimony."
To do things up . nicely, the
mayor of Dogpatch, McGurgle,
and Mayor Andrew Sullivan of
Ole Miss Hollow have proclaimed
three days-November 19, 20 and
21 as Sadie Hawkins' Days. A
big S. HI. race has been planned
and all the frats and sororities
are holding open house.
Many universities and colleges
all over the country have added
Sadie Hawkins' Day to the usual
list of fun-days. Here's hoping
it's as big a success on Carolina
campus.

To Sponsor Safety
Meeting On Campus
A Safety Education Conference
will be held Nov. 17 at the univer
sity sponsored by the Columbia
Junior Chamber of Commerce and
the South Carolina Highway de
partment, W. H. Ward, director of
the University Extension Division,
said today.
Approximately 50 teachers from
different parts of the state will
come to the university for the
course on safety education which
will be conducted by the American
Automobile association. These
teachers are teaching or are pre
paring to teach automobile and
highway safety education to the
students of the various high
schools they represent.
The high schools will be sup
plied dual-control automobiles for
the students to use in learning to
operate a vehicle on the open
highways. In the event a student
is not capable of controlling the
car, the instructor can quickly
take over the wheel and bring the
car back into control, Ward said.

Band To Play
At Charlotte,
Durham Game
The university band, with 60
pieces, will play at the Duke game
at Durham November 15, and at
the Wake Forest game at Char
lotte November 27. Proceeds of
the University "B" squad-Fort
Jackson game last Saturday night
will provide funds for the trips.
Lack of funds was the cause
for the band's absence at previous
out-of-town games. The band
played at the Maryland, Furman,
and Clemson games in Columbia
this year. A 15 minute broadcast
over WNOK was given the night
before the Clemson game.
Officers for 1947 were elected
October 28. They are: Conrad
Richardson, president; Francis
Cain, vice president; Ray Clark
and Bill Patrick, librarians. Joe
Belk was appointed assistant di
rector by Director Louis Fink.
