CAROLINA-CLEMSON WEEK The entire student body has been invited to -attend the annual KA tea dance after the game, Thursday which will be given by the alumni of Ro chapter of KA at the Jefferson Hotel. Pi K As are putting the finishing touches on the Dream Girl ball which will be held the night before the Clemson garne. Perry Como will sing "Dream Girl of Pi K A" Wed nesday night over his radio program and dedicate it to the Xi chapter at Carolina. Lambda Chis plan a drop-in the night before the game for friends of Lambda Chis from Clemson. FUN TO COME Phi Kappa-Sigma will have a stag banquet Saturday night to celebrate Founders Day. The fraternity members will attend church together Sunday morning. Sigma Chis will play host to the men of Carolina Wednesday at a drop-in at the fraternity house. A D Pis will honor homecoming queen Callie Phillips with a drop-in at the A D Pi house Sunday, October 19, from 8-9, The faculty and student body have been invited to attend. Chi O's coffee hour will be ip honor of new sorority pledges next Sunday. Pi Phis have resumed their Sunday night drop ins from 8-9. A state conclave of Pi Kappa Phi will be held in Columbia November 14-15. National officers will be present and mem. bers from College of Charleston, PC, Furman, Wofford, and Carolina. The meeting, which will be held at the Hotel Co lumbia, will be climaxed with a formal banquet and dance Saturday night, November 15. ELECTIONS AND INITIATIONS Sigma Chi will hold formal initiation Saturday night Those to become actives are Bob Riordan, Wendell Shorter, Bob Thoren, Keith Affeld, Dick Morelli, Gifford Solomons and Paul Miller. Two new officers were elected by A D Pis on Septembei 30. Claire Cely steps up from the office of vice-president tc become head of the sorority, and Betty Lou Phillips is the new vice-president. The former president was Ann Stone, who did not return this semester. Other officers are Blanche Swarthout, secretary, and Irene Sanders, treasurer. THIS AND THAT Among those returning to the Carolina campus for the homecoming game last week were Othneil Weinges, Rut Osborne, and Bert Knight, KAs; Jim Hunnicutt, Phi Sigma Kappa; and Shirley Feldman and Shera Lee Ellison, Delta Taue. Pi Kappa Phi welcomes to Carolina transfers Sam Mc Kittrick and Reese Daniel from Furman, Howard Pettit from Wofford and C. U. Winter, College of Charleston. Bunch, a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, has been active in campus affafrs, having been a candidate for the presi dency of the student body in last springia. election. Redmond Fyler, member of Kappa Alpha, was elected vice president;- Miller Foster, Sigma Chi, was elected secretary, and Jim Parr, Lambda Chi Alpha, was elected treasurer. Earl Ellis, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was elect ed chairman of the rules commit tee. The function of the council has changed considerably since the war years when it acted more in 'a social capacity. The recently ratified constitution gives more power to the council in matters pertaining to the fraternities. The inter-fraternity council ac cepted at its last meeting a plan to give awards for various achievements, the first of which will be the presentation of a lov ing cup at the Carolina-Clemson game to the fraternity having the most appropriate display or ban ner with reference to the tradi tional grid clash. This will in no way interfere with a like award presented b'y the Boosters club. The council will also conduct an intra-fraternity intermurals program, including basketball, football, softball, and with the possible addition of other sports, giving a well rounded sports program. "Doc" Blanchard Honored By SNU's The Rho Chapter of Sigma Nu entertained Felix "Doc" Blanchard with a stag party Monday night, October 13, after his appearance at the Carolina Theatre, at the home of Mrs. Bill Snipes of 1120 Enoree Avenue, Columbia, S. C. "Doc", a native of Bishopville, S. C., was a Sigma .Nu at the University of North Carolina be fore he enrolled as a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point. "Doc" was weary after being grilled by the press and fans all day, but according to the "party-poopers" he's not' just the best fullback in football his tory but a good fellow. "It took six weeks to shoot the picture", "Doc" replied when ask ed about his stay in Hollywood, "but if it hadn't been for the army I could have put up with that place for quite a while longer." (Photo by Manning Harris). - - iV L D EMc' e% '.v . * -\ V.* Page Five Pi Kappa Alpha And Pi Beta Phi Winners Of Banners Contest The winners of the homecom ing banners contest, sponsored by the Carolina Boosters Club, were Pi Kappa Alpha for the frater nities, and Pi Beta Phi for the $ sororities, according to an an nouncement by Jo Anne Dellinger, Booster Club chairman of the homecoming festivities. The theme of the Pi Kappa Al pha's banner, displayed between McCutcheon and Maxcy college, was a purple hurricane into which dry ice was being dropped by a Game cock. The Pi Beta Phi's, who will re ceive the Homecoming Cup given by the Pan-Hellenic council, theme was "Gamecock Can-Can Furman." The judges, composed of two faculty members, Miss Ruby Ott, and Professor D. G. Carlisle, and two students, Palmer McArthur, president of the student body, and Bert Moore, Booster Club repre sentative, also gave honorable mention to Lambda Chi, for the "You did it before, we can do it rarded again" banner, and to Kappa Al pha for their "USC Jail." .* - I eA aanenee
