Chi Omegas held initiation Monday and Tuesday for Ann
Ford, Lois McBryde, Ann Mood, Beth Mood, Beth Fillingim,
Janet Wyles, Gloria Crouse, Jean Davis, Joy Conard, Amalie
Stone, Peggy Spencer, Flora McKnight, and Libby Cole.
Kappa Alpha's will head to the Walkers' country home,
"Pawley's Inlet," this afternoon, starting at 2 and lasting
until. KA's held formal pledge ceremony Monday for Jimmy
Sheperd.
Sigma Chi's barbecued at Jeff Hunt's last Saturday, start
ing in early afternoon and going til late at night. Recent initi
ates are Frank Epps, Plowden Nelson, Roddy Moss, "Speck"
Waters and Joe Bishop . . Thursday night the chapter
pirtied at the Woman's Club, in honor of "The Sweetheart
of Sigma Chi."
Kappa Delta's decorations for last night's formal were
the most unique witnessed on the campus in many semesters.
Crepe paper, considered a fire hazard, gave way to silver
studded stars suspended from the ceiling.
The local chapter of Pi Beta Phi will celebrate their Found
ers Day on April 29 with a banquet at the Woman's Club.
Alumnae, actives and pledges will attend. Liz Norton, Pi Phi
'46, visited the campus this week.
Alpha Delta Pi's entertained Sigma Chis Wednesday in
the sorority room.
New officers for Delta Delta Delta for the '47-48 school
term are Patsy Fortinberry, president; Mary King, vice
president; Jean Lumpkin, recording secretary; Vivian Owens,
corresponding secretary; and Sara Edwards, treasurer.
The Pi Kappa Alpha's are having an all-day party today
at Sesquie with a softball game between the actives and
pledges, plus hamburger fry, song fest, swimming and
dancing.
New Pi Kappa Phi actives are Charlie Appleby, Billy Greer,
Billy Parler, Dick Singleton, Gene Lewis, Joe Hughes, Jack
Westmoreland, George Walters, Bert Orr, Bob Redfearn,
Marks Smith, Neil Watson, Gene Forester, Henry Harris,
and Rex Salley. New Pi Kap Phi pledge is Charles "Chuck"
Spann.
Delta Zetas journeyed out to Sesqui last Wednesday night
for a party . . . Dates included.
CLEMSON GOERS
This week-end will see Jeanne Simpson, Cookie Saumenig,
"B.J." Livingston, Carrie Alice Jenkins, Pat Young, and Pat
Lewis at Clemson for the Taps Ball. Also going to Clemson
will be Rose Brown, Belinda Collum, Polly Carnell, and Anne
-hristopher for the Clemson-Carolina Track Meet.

Mr. and Mrs. (Muriel Black) John Holland attending the
Cotillion Formal. John is a former Pi Kappa Phi.
Bob and Betty (Solomon) Buck are the proud parents of
a daughter born this week. Betty was a Kappa Delta.
Compass and Chart will hold its Commissioning Ball May
16. George Seymore is president and Mac Yates, vice-presi
dent.
. Jane Durden, ADPi, and Mart Smith, Sigma Chi, have an
n3unced plans for an approaching wedding. Jane left school
last week to make the necessary preparations and Mart left
recently to return to the Army Air Corps as a 1st Lt.
Betty Childs, Tri Delt alum, and John Oliver Simpson, Sig
ma Chi alum, were married April 11 in Trinity Church, Co
lumbia.

University in an effort to deter
mine the results of a balanced and I
unbalanced diet, have been carry- v
ing on experiments with white I
rats. Mrs. Louise P. Cole, professor r
of homemaking, has just released s
the results of the first ten day
period of these experiments. I
The rats, divided into three I
groups, were started on their re- s
spective diets with the same weight I
and age on April 12. These diets s
stressed the Importance of a good I
breakfast and plenty of milk. A
The results were that the rat <
in group I receiving a balanced <
breakfast of whole wheat cereal,
milk, egg, fruit, and butter has t
gained 38 grams in weight, while I
his mate who has been fed sweet I
rolls, coffee and Coca-Cola has I
gained only 2 grams in weight.
One rat in group two dined on
a balanced diet of meat, whole
wheat cereal, potatoes, vegetable,
lettuce, carrots, and butter and
milk has gained 48.6 grams while
the other rat in this group feast
ing upon meat, potatoes, and bread
has gained 29.5 grams.
In the third group, which stress
ed the importance of milk alone,
one rat was given cereal and milk
and has gained 20.3 grams while
