After my alarm clock had rudely startled me out of a
peaceful sleep in the wee hours of last Friday morning, and
I had calmly (?) disposed of it by pitching it out of the third
floorwindow, I lay back in bed to think about all the things
I had to do during the day. It was heavenly to think that
Friday had come at last and maybe the rapid pace of life
at Carolina would slacken a little and I could enjoy a little
social activity for the weekend. Ah, me! Ignorance is bliss.
It hit me all of a sudden while I was dreaming through my
eight o'clock class. The realization was sort of hazy and dis
tant at first-what was it I had to do at 3:00 Friday after
noon? Then the bomb burst. Gamecock deadline! Another
column to write-And I had just turned in one column on
Wednesday. No rest for the weary. And no news-absolutely
no news! Well-you can guess the rest of my sad story. And
here are the results below.
- In spite- of Homecoming Saturday, several Carolina cuties
toured down to Charleston for the Citadel hop-Rose Knox,
DZ, sponsored for Arthur Tuten . . . K)s Mary Speed,
Maiy McQueen, and Adelaide Sox, and Tri I)elts Lillian Wil
liams, Anne Hiott, Cookie VanBenthuysen, and Barbara
Dukes made up the Carolina delegation . . . Sarah Bull, Tri
Delt, and Trudie Leonard, K), decided to be different. Sarah
went to Clemson and Trudie .went to the Medical College
Ball in Charleston with Shorty Johnston.
ZTA pledges surprised the actives with a social after the
meeting last Monday night . . . The Zetas have as their
guest Miss Patsy Sparling, National Field Secretary.
Recent ADPi initiates are Jean -lull, Margaret Camp,
Blanche Swarthout, and Betty Lee Phillips . . . And here's a
scoop--Margaret Scheper, ADPi, has a (ate with J)OC
BLANCHARD for a Christmas dance in Bishopville.
Here's lots of news from the DZ room. Vivian Pounds had
an all night bridge party at her home last wveek . . . Jessie
Phasey, Dot Phasey, Jean Via, Ann Dabbs, spent last week
end in Charleston with aluni Jo Martin . . . Officers for the
Delta Zeta Mothers Club will be elected Sunday, December
1 . . . The DZs are planning another of their annual Christ
mas drop-ins with the first hour for parents and alus, and
the last two hours for the whole Carolina campus . .. .DZs
have on display in their room two more oils from the art de
partment, Jack Smyre's "Jam Session" and Faye Appel's
"Market." Everybody is invited to see them.
Jill Lane, Pi Phi alum, will be married to Stephan Wilon
in Hendersonville, N. C., this month. Bert Hemingway, K.D.
is to be in the wedding . . . And slpeaking of veddings, Nancy
Nash and Byrd Murray, Tri Delts, and Margaret Scheper,
ADPi, traveled over to Camden last weekend to be in the
wedding of Frances West, K.). alum. K f) alum Sidney Jones
was also in the wedding.
