The traditional game with Citadel will be played In Orangeburg on Fair Day, November 1. This game, discontinued as Citadel withdrew from intercollegiate sports, because of wartime scarcety of students. will bring happy memories to the students who used to ride the trains to the big game. Citadel's return to intercollegiate football should prove most interesting. The Gamecocks will meet two of the nations strongest teams in Carolina stadium when the Crim son Tide of Alabama and the Blue Devils of Duke journey to Columbia this fall. The Alabama team, a natural favorite should prove the Gamecocks greatest foe this fall. The eyes of the nation have been on Vaughn Mancha and Harry Gil mer during the past season and there is little doubt about their liv ing up to expectations come this fall. Alabama athletic officials have stated that there will be little change In the Crimson Tide's line up for the coming season. Numer. ous people wonder if the Tide has reached Its point of diminishing productivity. On the contrary Duke may he ex pected to have an excellent team as usual. The Blue Devils have won reknown in their athletics and there is little to believe other than the best for them. Carolina will meet the Old Liners in College Park, Md., seeking a win after the Old Liners victory here last year. Besides Citadel, the Gamecocks will play three in-state games. The opening game of the season will be against the New berry Indians. played in Carolina stadium, September 28. On October 11 the Gamecocks venture to Fur man to play a night game in Green ville. The highlight of the in-state games will be the Gamecock-Clem son tjt. Octoner :eq. The Clemson Tigers, favored over the Gamecocks last season were held to a tic. This game, to be played in Columbia, should be the drawing card of the 1946 schedule. Carolina ends its season against Wake Forest, when the Gamecock . grid stars journey to Charlotte on Thanksgiving Day. The Gamecock spring practiee showed much talent among the team. L. 1440 MAIN STREE ANY THING NEEDEt ns Silent As es Next Fall Shi Plans For Eight Game Schedule Plans for an eight-match boxing season were revealed today by Al lan Shi. coach of the University's boxing team. This will be the first. full-time boxing season since 1941. "We were late getting started last year." Shi stated, "but this year we will have a full schedule-and an early start." Last year's team had only four matches on its schedule, and didn't get started until Jan uary. Shi disclosed that at present only two matches have been definitely made, although letters have been sent to schools on the Eastern Sea. board. These matches are with the University of Maryland, and the University of North Carolina. Ten tatively. matches are in the making with the Citadel, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Penn State, Syra cuse, and P.C. It is hoped that a schedule calling for four home matches away can be arranged. In addition to the schedule, it is hoped that the Southern Conference Box ing Tournament will be revived. If it should be revived, the Tourna ment will be held at Maryland, and a team representing the University will participate. As for prospects for the team for next year, there are two lettermen returning, Ray White, 127-pounder, and Gene Morrison, 165-pounder. i From the Intramurals, Bob Wilson, Elihu Monica, and "Manny" Mer chant have signified their Inten. tions of reporting when practice begins, which, incidentally, begins the last of November. Athletic Cards To Be Given Out Fall Term Coach Rex Enright announced last Wednesday that the athletic cards for the fall term would be distributed as they were this past semester. He requests that all stu. dents ask for an athletic card as they pay their tuition ani fees. The athletic cards are for the use of the student named and are not transferable. In the last of the third inning Carr. S.A.E. pitcher doubled. bring ing 3eymore across the plate for the game's first score. The S.A.E.'s retained their lead and in the last of the fourth they threatened to score again. Bird Dog Thornton Thornton died on second as Hanson struck out. In the last of the fifth the Phi Kaps made their second double play of the day. as Seymore hit a fly to Yates. The Phi Kaps made their first score in the sixth as Abstence came home, tying the score 1-1. The score remained tied through out the game, until Abstence got a single with the bases loaded, in the eleventh inning bringing Sheeley in for the winning run. Yates, pitcher for the Phi Kaps delivered a hard ball which was ut terly impossible to hit. Yates struck out for fifteen S.A.E.'s who were no match for his excellent pitching. Bill Carr. pitcher for S.A.E. I struck out eight of his opponents. Carr's hitting was up to par get ting three hits for six trips to the plate. le was thrown out in the first inning while trying to steal third. Nellie Nelson slammed out a four bagger with Joe Mayo on the sec ond hassock for the only homer of the contest. Meatball Meeks toed the slab for the winners turning in a beautiful three hitter. Little Billy Carr was on the mound for the losers and also did a creditable job allowing six safeties. Swede Hanson and Ray Maginn were defensive stars for the losers making many fielding gems dur. ing the seven inning affair. Star hitter for the Nu's was right fielder Nellie Nelson who collect. ed a homer and a single for three trips to the plate to lead his team at bat. Slugger for the losers was Ray Maginn who collected a double for three strolls to the plate.
