The Gamecock, in an effort to
pick an All State baseball team,
sent out letters to all the college
coaches in South Carolina. After
making this poll the. Gamecock Is
now ready to give to its readers
the South Carolina Baseball
Coaches' choice for an all-state
aggregation.
The poll shows that Joe Lan
drum of Clemson received the high
est number of votes and therefore
gets the honor of being captain for
tilis team. Landrum, a Columbia
lad, pitched the Clemson Tigers to
the state title. Landrum pitched a
no hit game against Erskine and
had a season record of six wins
against two losses. Joe also did yeo
man work at the plate and compiled
a batting average of .285. which is
pretty good for a pitcher.
Bruce Tate, mainstay of the Uni
versity of South Carolina Game
cocks was chosen as catcher. Tate
is an old campaigner having per
formed for the Birds back in 1942
before going into the army. Bruce
was clean up hitter for the birds
most of the season and compiled
an average just below 36o. H4e also
accomplished an iton man feat last
weekend when he caught four
games in two days. ,
For the first base spot the coaches
picked Owens of Furman. Owens
is by far the classiest fielding first
baseman in the state and is also
power at the plate. ie skippered
the Furman team aundt was ite hael

leads his team in the long hitting
department with seven triples, and
four doubles. Robinson has a power
ful throwing arm and can cover a
lot of territory down at short.
Dewey Quinn, Clemson's hard hit

at that position. QuIa is leading
his team in hitting with an average
