Colonel Johnson re ceived the medal in recognition for his work as director of the Office of Defense Transportation. Colonel Johnson, a veteran of the First World War, Is a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission, has served as assistant secretary of commerce, and is active in Amer lean Legion activities. 1900-1919 Lieut. Executive Secretary and , Boylston Greer Emerson Colle Dr. Boylston Green, ' 25A, ' 26G, was inaugurated as the fifth presi dent of Emerson College in Boston on March 15, in Old South Church, Boston. For the past four years he has been acting Dean of Men's Col lege at Middlebury College, Mas sachusetts. Born in Columbia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halcott Pride Green (who now live in Camden). he was edu cated at the University of South Carolina, receiving his bachelor and master of arts degrees here. While at the University, Doctor Green made an enviable record for "capacity and quality of work," ac cordbig to the 1925 Garnet and Black. He played freshman football, was on swimming and tennis teams, was president of the Ravanel Bio logical Society and of the Wauchope Club, and a member of the German Club, .lohn Rutledge Law Club, Chanticleer Club, Law Association. and Press Club. After leaving Caroliia he (lid ad vertising and sales promotion work in New York for six years, being associated with R. 11. Macy and Company. Doctor Green has become widely known in educational circles in the years since he left Canolina, and at the ag'e of forty-one is among the youngest college presidents in the nation. Emerson college, now in its 66th scholastic year, was founded by Dr. Charles Wesley Emerson, an edu cator niany years ahead of his time, who set forth as his aim the educa tion of the individual through the power of self-expression. The col lege has made rapid progress in the past two decades, and the vigorous and progressive Doctor Green is expected, according to Boston news paper reports, to lead the college to still greater prominence. Doctor Green is an active and in lerested Carolina alumnus. lie writes that an effort is being made to organize Carolina alumni in the New England states, and that he expects to take a part in the activi ties of the group. At the inauguration ceremonies the University was represented by Walter J. Robbins. '13A, an execu tive of the McCaskey Register com pany of Boston. Mr. Robbins was one of more than a hundred repre sentatives of various colleges and universities throughout the coun try who attended the inauguration of Doctor Green. the European theater.
