Edward Cantey Halle, '25A, of Columbia, is on terminal leave from the AUS, after having sermed with that branch of service for the past three and a half years. Charles Haller (Hal) Goodwvyn, '26A, of Columbia, recently spent a short vacation at home. Veteran of 17 years commercial flying experi ence, he has flown with Pan-Ameri can airways as a pilot, and has serv ed as operations manager of Pan American airways in Alaska for the past two years. Recently he was transferred to Mexico City where he will hold a similar position. '30A, of Patrick, is now on terminal leave from the Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, after havint served with that branch of service in the Euro pean theater of operations. Major Buie is wearer of the Bronze Star, the European-African-Middle East theater ribbon, the American Thea ter ribbon, and also holds the Or! der of the Red Star, awarded him by the Russian government. James Edward Bell, Jr., M.D., '43A, of McCormick, recently re ceived recognition for his work in the administration of an antidote for treatment of a black widow spider bite. Doctor Bell, now serv ing as an interne at-Roper Hospital, Charleston, ,worked with Doctor John A. Boone, assistant professoi of medicine at the S. C. Medical college, in using an injection of neostigmine - methylsulfate with atropine, which brought relief to the patient within 15 minutes. An account of Doctor Bell's accomplish ment appeared in a recent issue of the Journal of the American Medi cal Association. Major ThftddetIs Carlyle Dukes, '41L, of Harleyville, is now serving as adjutant of the 54th Transporta tion Corps Service group in Manila. Major Dukes is wearer of the Arberican Defense ribbon with one campaign star, the Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with two campaign stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one campaign star, and the World War II Victory medal. A former member of the South Caro lina bar, he plans to resume his practice of law, upon his releast from the service. Capt. Edward Charles Cushman, Jr., '42L, of Aiken, was recently awarded the Bronze Star for gal. lantry in action on Iwo Jima last year. At present he is stationed with the Marine Corps in the Pa cific. where he is doing legal work. Capt.
