Mr. Webster served as postmaster in Orangeburg for 23 years, and has identified himself with many activities of his com munity.. Wilmot Lewis McCutchen, D.D.S., '99A, of Sumter, was recent ly appointed Sumter chapter ema ployment officer for the Disabled American Veterans group' in that district. Howard Horace Beard, '14A, of Columbia, formerly addressed at New Orleans, La., is now connected with the Department of Physiologi cal Chemistry, of the Chicago Med ical School, in Chicago, ill. Busbee, '28C, '38G, of West Columbia, who has served for 13 months with the Navy over seas, recently resumed his position as superintendent of the Brook land-Cayce schools. Marion Burnside Hook, M.D. '38A, of Columbia, recently assumed his duties as resident physician of Providence hospital, after having served with the Army medical corps since 1942. Doctor Hook served as a First Lieutenant with a combat di vision, and was on duty overseas for 19 months, during which he parti cipated in five major European campaigns. Chaplain McCullough has served with the navy since 1943, and hae served aboard the USS Albemarle, and at Trinidad. The Rev. Albert Green, '39A, of Turbeville, recently assumed his du ties as director of Youth Work in the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist church. The Rev. Mj. Rufus Marion Newton, '32E, '35L, of Columbia, recently attended the annual convention of the National association of Utility and Railroad Commissioners at Miami Beach, Fla. Mr. Newton is a member of the committee on progress in regu lation of transportation agencies. Also attending the convention was Irvine F. Belser, '10A, the commis sion's chief counsel and a member of the special committee on de velopments in regulatory laws. Edward Percy Guerard, '38E, of Columbia, recently assumed his du ties as head of the visual education department for the Dixie Radio Supply company. Prior to accept. ing this position, Mr. Guerard was connected with the U. S. Custom Service in Charleston. Edith Calvin Pope, '39A, of Winns boro, who is serving with the American Red Cross, is now sta tioned at Seymour Johnson Field, Goldsboro, N. C. Miss Pope has been on duty at the U. S. Naval hospital at New Orleans, La., and at Stark General hospital, Charleston. She has been commended for her out standing work in connection with traveling on hospital trains from the East to the West coast. David Myers Graham, '39A, of Columbia, recently assumed his du ties with W. Dixon Foster in the in surance business, after having re ceived his discharge from the Ma rine corps. Mr. Graham was on duty with the Marines for three and a half years, two of which were spent in the Pacific. Prior to enter ing the service, he was associated with the Southern States Supply company. Lieut. Jesse Weiner, '38CE, of Co lumbia, was recently commended for his outstanding service in con nection with the building of a 1.050 foot pile bent bridge across the Rhine river at Oppenheim, Ger many. Lieutenant Weiner engineer ed the lighting of the bridge. Prior to entering the service, he was em ployed by the War Department in Washington, D. C. as a civil en gineer. At present he is on duty in the Philippine islands, wvhere he is superv'ising the construction of permanent barracks. Dana T. Crosiand, CM 8-c, '88A, of Benettsville, recently returned to the States, after having served for 31 months with the Seabees' in the Pacific. lie is addressed at Ben. nettsville. 1940-1949 Jieut. Samuel Maurice Hlumphries, '42CE, of Columbia, has been re leaisedi from active duty wvithi the Navy, after having served with that branch of service since 1940. Lieu. tenant H-umphries saw duty aboard the destroyer USS Laffey, and took part in various Pacific battles, in cluding Midway and Oldnawa. He is wearer of the American Defense ribbon with one star, the Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon with seven stars, the European-African theater ribbon with one star, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with two stars, and the American theater ribbon. Omar Smaliwood Hiliman, Jr., '430,'of Columbia, recently received his discharge from the AAF,. after having served overseas with that branch of service. He is co-owner and operator of a sporting goods store in Columbia. Capt. John M. (Jack) Hendley, '42E, of Columbia, is now on duty at the naval air base at Isahaya, Japan, where he is commanding of ficer of a reconnaissance company I of the Second Marine division. Now on his second tour of foreign duty, Captain Hendley has served with the First Marine division in New Zealand, Australia, the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and New Britain, and with the Second Ma rine division on Saipan and various other, Pacific points.
