Roberta Williams, retiring editor
of the Gamecock, announced this
weak that Anne Searson would re
place her as staff chief in the com
ing Fall semester.
Searson has been serving as man
aging editor during the Summer.
Assisting her as second in com
mand of the Gamecock this Fall
will be Virginia Raysor, Florida
sophomore and present News Edi
tor.
Joe Drennan, who returned to
Carolina as a veteran in June, will
succeed Raysor as News Editor.
The position of Feature Editor will
be held down by NROTC George
Celusta. Rives Ward, a rising se
nior, takes command of the Society
Page. Morris Shadburn, former
Sports Editor of The Emory Wheel,
will serve in the same capacity on
the Gamecock.
Three associate editors have been
appointed: Saul Lavisky, retiring
Sports Editor, Herb Beitel, and
Carl Stone, members of the recent
ly organized Carolina Review staff.
The above appointments were
passed by the gtudent board of
publications at a recent meeting.
The new editors will assume re
sponsibility with the publication of
the first issue next semester due to

Extension Boasts
Hundred Students
In Evening Classes
Approximately 100 tudents have
enrolled for courses offered by the
University Extension Division this
fall.
Registration was held in thel
School of &oninerce in iiarper col
lege from 7 to 9 p. m., Friday, Octo
ber 5. The largest classes are the
advanced and elmentary accounting.
The evening classes began Mon
day October 8, and will continue
for 16 weeks with final examina
tions beginning January 20. The
classes meet twice a week for one
and one-half hours each period.
Each course carries three credits.
Students who do not desire de
gree credit may enter any class but
all students must meet the require
ments outlined In the University
Catalog.
Regular term University students
entered the evening classes upon
special permission.

Commander Davis volunteered for
service in the navy early in the
war. entering as a lieutenant com
mander. He is now a senior grade
officer. le is stationed at North
western state College of Louisiana,
where he commands the United
States Navy V-5 unit.
