ODK Will Elect New Members August 15; Point List Published Omicron Delta Kappa, national leadership fraternity, will hold its summer semester elections on August 15, President John Reese announced today. 0. D. K., as it is popularly called, was founded inl 1914 at Washington and Lee University. Since then it has grown to the second largest national fraternity of its kind. The purpose of the fraternity is to give recognition and en couragement to students who have reached a proficiency in student activities. It encourages leadership in scholastic en de.avor, athletics, publications, and religious and social ae tivities. The local Chi Chapter was founded in 1928 under the leader ship of Prof. Havilah Babcock. The principle contributions to the University are the brick walks and the 0. 1). K. Circle, where all of the campus elections are held. To be elected to the fraternity a candidate must have earned 100 honor points and be voted in by the active chapter. Officers and members of the Chi Circle are John Reese, President; Don Singletary, Vice President; Bob Chapman, Secretary; Vinnie Wilson ,Treasurer: Bill Hutchinson, Roy Bajs, Bill Thrasher. Doug Smith, Buck Isom, Reece Smith, Bill Swift and Bob Dressel. Several changes and additions have been made to the honor point list and new members will be chosen by the new list. C. Opportunity will be first ex tended to veterans and members of the Armed Forces. Those applying for this service will be selected by a process of competitive Examinations. The training Is for those who wish to help in rehabilitation overseas. The qualifications for applicants are that: 1. The applicant must have been born between July 1, 1915, and July 1. 1924. 2. The applicant must have been a citizen for at least 15 years prior to July 1, 1945. 3. The applicant must not be mar ried to an enemy alien. 4. The applicant must have a bachelor's or equivalent degree from an accredited college or uni versity; or if his course in such a college or university was interrupt ed by induction into the armed forces, he must have completed ap proximately three-fourths of his course required for such a degree. 5. The applicant must be able to read with reasonable facility one of the following languages-French, Spanish, German. 6. The applicant must have been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States or placed on inactive status, or if now serving on active duty, mustj on January 1, 1945, have served at' least one year in the Armed korces. 7. Speakers of the even ing were Doctor Arlail and Dean Chase. Past President George He low introduced the new members of the fraternity and the officers for the now current term. They are president, Howard Hal pin; vice-president, Tommy Howell; recording secretary, Dick Dusen bury; corresponding secretary, Sam Barrett; treasurer, Bennett Lott; scribe, Bill Prigge; and sergeant at-arms, T. D. "Buck" Isom. Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity Is one of the several service organi zations on the campus. Back in those days the Navy men weren't so well off with only a few liberties and just a handful of these gorgeous gals now so plehtiful. For these Navy men confined to the campus, Tom Stevenson, ROTC and tackle on the football team, gave the first Happy Hour. (The name Is taken from a program of the same type given on board ship). They immediately became a great success- drawing an average attend ance of from 300 to 500. In In the past several series of programs have been presented. Ap pearing In these were various groups from Columbia College, the Air Base Trio, Allen University Choir, and the Blue Jackets who always had a ready welcome when they were functioning. At the present the Happy Hour is under the auspices of Jerry Meacham and Anne Searson. It is held at 7 o'clock on Tuesday night and we expect anything to happen. Come prepared for an A to Z pro gram enacted by anyone from our most dignified of seniors to the most timid of our freshmen.
