The Murky Way

RUSH WEEK
Once again the sororities are stealing the limelight as
rush week gets into full swing. Pan-Helldnic started the
ball rolling with a tea in Sim.s lounge last Sunday night.
Monday night Delta Zeta took over and Tuesday night Chi
Omega entertained. Kappa Delta drew Wednesday and Delta
Delta Delta had Thursday. Zeta Tau Alpha will rush tonight
and tomorrow will be observed as a day of silence because
of the May Day exercises. Alpha Delta Pi will entertain
Monda.v and Pi Beta Phi will wind up the routine parties
Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be the days for pref
ertial parties.
SATURDAY NiGHT
Last weekend was the occasion of many parties. Delta
Zeta had one Friday night at Doc Crawford's. Saturday
night SAE's held theirs at Mac and Bubba Boyle's place.
Sigma Nu's and Sigma Chi's "joined forces and held what
started to be a swimming party and ended up as a blanket
party at Sheriff Heise's pond. "Doc" Crawford's was the
scene of the Kappa Sig party. KA's took an all-day trip
to Smallwood. Several swimming parties were called off
because of the chilly weather. ADPi's Eton Morris, Anne
Rhame, "Binky" Tobias, Lena Gilbert, Alice Ross, "Toni"
Child and Tri-Delt Virginia Cunningham enjoyed a house
party at Lake Murray. The A1)Pi's are planning another
houseparty on May 26.
OVER THE WEEKEND
Over the weekend Sara Darby went to Norfolk for a visit
* with Doris .onos. Independents Frances Miller and Eleanor
Bonds went to the Beach. Alice Brand Ross spent the week
end with Frannie Siddall of Sumter. Bert Wilson, KD, took
.Julia Bull, also K), to Darlington for a short visit. Speak
ing of visits, the Carolina csrnpus was recently visited by
Tom "Rubba" Boyle, SAE alum; Betty Jo Canady, former
Independent; Lambda Chi Barney Myers, who just was com
missioned ensign; KA's Seig Rush,,now an air corps cadet,
and former student body president, Ensign Bill Jones.
SCATTERED BITS
Chi Omega initiated twelve new members last week. The
girls are Ann L,indfors, Jane Durham, Jeanne Sargeant, Janet
Bloom, Mary Lou Nettles, Colleen Bright, Lib Fanning,
Ruth Burns, Ann Tweedie, Becky Ann Melton and Jean Serio.
. .. Plans are speeding ahead for the Kappa I)elt formal
on the 18th of May.... May 19th is the night of the Inde
pendents carnival. . .. Very lovely indeed was the wedding
of Alums KD Betty Marshall and ATO Frankie Marion.
Brooksie Marshall was maid of honor and looked very fetch
ing. . . . Another Ki), Shiny Dial, was married last week
to Sgt. Bill Davis. . . . Tri Delt Cookie VanBenthuysen is
sporting a new Phi Delta Theta pin belonging to .Jack Mon
crief, med student at Esmory. . . . New ZTA's are .Jackie
Shaw, Ruth Reynolds and Virginia Vincent. These three
were initiated late last week. .. ..hi 0's Ann Tweedie and
Colleen Bright are wearing KS pins of Beach Gattman and
Moose Mueller, respectively. . . . Suzanne Fishborne sports

Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity will

noon at installation ceremonies to

chapter. In celebration of the oc
casion members of the fraternity
are giving a formal hanquet that
night. a luncheon on Sunday morn
ing and a drop-in Sunday after
noon. The banquet is to be held
in the Metropolitan dir.ing room.
Gifford Campbell will open the
prgrarn with the blessing and the
