Seashells, Identified,
Return To University
After 'Many Years
Alany years ago sonc depart
ment at the 1'niversity sent to Dr.
\William G. Ma7yck several boxes
of sea shells for identification, but
only this week wscre they returned
by his daughter, .\Iiss F.thel
.\l azyck.
Nliss Mazyck wrote that the delay
was due to her father's failing
health ai eyesight. Ibt he was
able to identify the different shells.
About 50 or 6o different kinds of
shells were identified by Dr.
Mazyck who wrote the natne of
the species inside the shell.
MI r. I.ewis C. Branscomh, libra
rian. to who the shells were sent.
speculated that they were probably
sent by the Biology Department
although Dr. Ilo, head of the
Iti)logy I)eparttnent, said lie had
n1 treollectiont of any :.hells being
sent to IDr. .sl aiyck fon identifica
tiein.
'1o help I )r. NIMaz.ck w%ith his re
searcl wourk concerning the shells,
the library had sent a rather rare
collection of books on the various
types of shells called conchologia
iconica by I.. A. Reese. \l is
\l azyck lotund four of the six v"ol
Lmes Of this series w% hich she sent
with the shells.
Teli library will place these books
at the disposal of students while
the shells will be sent to the Biology
Department.
