No Ringers For Bell
We Are Told
In answer to our recent horseshoe harangue
R. G. Bell, Y secretary, sends the following ex,

failed to note our aim) we will accept, it a

mule shoes; we are waiting for tle genlerouls
G. 1.
Editor of the aGamecock:
Thanks for your prodding about the possi
bilities of some horse shoe courts. The situa
tion is as follows: the V has the inclinatioin to
put in the courts, we have the place to put
them, we have the money to buy the equip
ment, hut after diligent search at all the sport
inlg goods houses in (oliumbia we have failed
to find any hor-se shoes. If any (1. T. sailor has
some mule shoes he would like to dispose of.
we will wrelcome them.
In the interim. we have found one set of
shoes, (tlhey don't miatchi and are rebuilding
the old court. We challenge you to a match,
catclh as catch can, throw as you choose. The
coirt is right under your wincdow and we iope
you will enjoy the clinking of the shoes on the
posts while you are workin; on the (iamecock.

At a time when interested students alternate
between asparin tablets and vitamin pills to
buek the difficulties of holding their organiza

two iew publications hit the campus stands.
One of them, the Carolinian, has already
come out. The editor and his mainly Babcock

work on their trial copy.

* Jottings
We hate to be doleful, but sunmner lethargy has descended on
the campus. In spite of the fact that we heard one fanciftll co-ed
describe the V-12's in their white uniforms as looking like snow
flakes, the majority of students and profs. feel the heat. Two
very diverse reactions have been noted. Those eager-beaver civi
lians who were planning to titteni summer semester find their
ambition waning, and the mania for sutn-tais is at a high pitch.
* Shoot Your Way To Tokyo
'Tlie canteen has an ilnovation in the way of it nuachine. Gobs
and others are tantalized into paying a nickle for the privilege
of aiming an imposing fake machine gin att a screen in order
to hit a series of planes that. flash across. An interesting item
of human drata was enacted the other day. Some V-12 self
consciously got up to t'y his luck watched supercilliously by a
lieutenant., covered with battle ribbons, seated at anm adjoinilg
table. Whei lie sat dowin after making it fair score, the officer
got up and earelessly began a game. IIis score was albout the
lowest you could get. A little abashed he said: "I guess I didn't
do so well."

of the words that had collie to uts through ia vocabtilary course
we'rt ellrolled in. We vent ired the wcord "tole", mleaning a
large an(1 pondorotls book. In the papler it appeared as "toih''".
Raitlly the same thing, some will tell you.
