Congratulations to the Tri-Delts and the Kappa Alphas, win
ners of the annual song fest. Singing for the Tri-Delts were
Suzanne Lyles, Joyce Hetzel, Kat Elliott, Barbara Lee, Pride
Craig, and Margaret McLeod. The K. A. Quartet was composed
of Bob Van Schaick, Bob Doyle, Charlie Skinner, and Tex Mc
e Manaway.
Former students visiting the campus recently were Frances
Padgett, Ernestine Bealer, Nora Walsh, Ensign Bill Jones, Mary
Dale Lott, Ensign Buddy Pennell, Margaret Tucker, and Cor
poral 3ays Moore . . . . The Independents entertained about
fifty girls and their dates with a picnic at Sesqui-Centennial
Park Saturday afternoon.
Peggy Williams has received the second degree initiation in
Kappa Delta .... Kat Dawson, Carmel Jenkins, Mary Frances
Lee, and Joe Newell beached at Folly last week-end, with Mrs.
Dawson chaperoning them . ... Murray Keller and Jane Specht
visited Binky and Jack Tobias at Pawley's over the week-end.
Sigma Chi has initiated Chuck Thompson, Charles Braswell,
John Tice, Chuck Baker, Bill Collins, John Stahl, E. K. John
son, Bob Maher, Jimmy Daughtery, Jo Taylor, P. D. Marsden,
and Herb King. A party will be held in their honor Saturday
night at Senator Hammond's .... A group of Sigma Nu's and
their dates had a houseparty at Zan Hayward's house at Lake
Murray.
Mary Beth Castles has been selected as the "Sweetheart of
Lambda Chi Alpha." Congratulations to her as she is the first
girl on the 'ampus to receive that honor . . .. Mary Kane spent
last week-end at her home at Erskine College where she at
tended the commencement exercises . .. . The Tri Delts are
honoring their senior members with the annual Pansy Break
fast Sunday morning in the private dining-room of the Metro.
The K. A.'s pledged the following boys May 17: Ed Parsons,
Louis L. Green, Curly Kendell, Bob Bannerman, and Bud Kess
ing. They all enjoyed a steak dinner after pledging. Welcomed
into their fraternity is a transfer, Fred May, from Drury Col
lege, Missouri . ... Mary Clarke and Lt. Cecil Brown, of Rich
mond and the Columbia Air Base, will be married tomorrow
evening at the Washington Street Methodist Church.
Forthcoming dances at the University are: Senior Damas
May 27 from 8 till 12 in the Naval armory; the Kappa Alpha
formal May 30 from 9 till 1 at the Jefferson hotel; Compass
, and Chart Ball June 6; the Independents' formal June 9 from 9
till 1, their tea dance June 10 from 4 to 6, and an informal barn
dance the night of June 10 from 9 till 12. Block tickets for the
Independents' series of dances will be $4.
Kappa Sigma held initiation ceremenies May 27 for Glenn
Agnew, Jimmy Lyles, Jack Bessent, LeRoy Salmon, Orrin Muel
ler, Paul Lehnig, Knobby Walsh, Dick Mahaffey, Bill Prigge,
Palmer McArthur, and Houston Crow . . . . Who is the fair lass
at Sims who has received a grass skirt and accessories from
the South Pacific?
LambIda Chii Alpha recently pledged Lt.-Commander Travis
Leverett, Ted Metier, and Barnwell Rhett Myers, Jr. ,. .. Alpha
Tau Omega entertained their alumni from Ft. Jackson with a
party at Senator Hammond's . .. . And Phi Kappa Sigma had a
get-together there Tuesday night . . . . Initiated into Pi Kappa
* Alpha were Bob Dressel and Mike Michele.
Pi Kappa Phi gave a party last Monday at the Woman's Club.
