Melvin Hemphill and his orchestra will furnish music for the occasion. A grand march will be the main feature of the dance and three no breaks and one special no-break for members and their dates. The spon sors will carry red roses and will be presented with bracelets bearing the German Club seal. Leverett will chaperone the dance, Contestants Announced The 12 leading contestants for queen of the Independent carnival who will be crowned Sattrday, April 22. in the Field House, were announced at a meeting of the In dependent Women of the Univer sity of South Carolina Monday, April 10. Candidates for the title of queen are as fullows: letty Knowles, K i t t y M cFarland, Rachel Arm strong. Janet Hatchel. Edna Hill [lay ncs, Patsy Patrick, Frances Coleman, Virginia Anne Buckner, Will Sossomon, Lib Evans, "Mug gins" Sweeney, and "Dit" Sanford. The contest will continue from the present time until 5 p. m. of the day of the carnival. Votes for the contestants may be casi at a poll in the canteen open from 9 a. n. to ,> p. i. Ine ientity of the queen will not be disclosed until her coro nation which will be the main feature of the carnival. 'Camp York Is Site Of "Y" Retreat The YW\'CA cabinet of the Uni versity of South Carolina held its regular weekly meeting. Tuesday, April 11. at 1 p. im. in Flinn Hall. Jane Brooks Mfarshall. president, presided. Martha Walker con ducted devotionals. The presidlent announced a joint YMNI-YW luncheon Friday, April 14i. at ip. im. in Flinn Hall. She also announced a "Y" conference at Camp York April 23-24. Memt hers wishing to attend the con ference are asked to contact the president before the next meeting. Comimittee reports were given and the time of genera l"Y" changed from 4:25 to 5 p. mn. Wednesday afternoons to avoid conflicts with other orgainization meetings. Jlane Greer Bell and Helen Pride Craig wecre asked to sendl cards to town girls a i nnucing the meetings. As Religious Fmphasis week will contintue through Tuesday, April 18. there will be no regular meeting of the cabinet at that time. Officers were asked to attend a short meet ng at 1 p. m.
