When your reporter interviewe
Chief Davis today he found th
Chief enthusiastic over the pros
pects for the shooting season i
'44. The newest note in the lineu:
is the use of waves from the off ic
to fill in the squad. The Chief ex
plained this by adding that th
team was short of good shots, an(
as several of the girls were marrie<
they had lots of experience.
Dicks, the captain of this year'
team, and veteran of two others
was interviewed also as to his ex
perience with the guns. le is s
local boy from the southern par
of the state, who got his start shoot
ing squirrels. Dicks was given
flintlock by his father when he wa
only two years old, and it was witl
this arm that he learned to shoot. L
is rumoured that he still use
the ancient weapon in importan
matches. To quote Dicks on hi
early training, "If you couldn't hi
4 squirrel in the eye at 5,000 yards
folks thought you just naturall:
wasn't no good."
Another rising member of thi
year's team is young Berkhart, th
"Tennesse Bullet." When askci
gbout the teams prospects this yea
the modest little fellow declined tc
give a reply. He did say however
that in a pinch, he thought he coul<
come through for the squad, so al

Mr. Akel's plan includes takinj

when the project is completed, thi
date for which he places at th<

How'd This Get In?
Story With A Moral
She was a slender blonde with
sparkling blue eyes. I glimpsed
themn as she bounded across the can
I teen screanming: "Annie, darling,
just LOOK at the mail." She then
quite proudly held out a handful Qf
letters.
* Annie screamed, floored with
I ecstasy at her bosom chunm's luck.
"Mlaybe . . . " she started, then
dashed across the canteen, through
the door and to her mail-box. Slow
ly she trudged back, her face a
mirror of dissapointment.
"No letter today," she announced
sadly.
The blonde fluttered her blue eyes.
"Gosh, Annie," she said, "here,
you can read some of mine." And
she handed Annie three letters.
"Ooeh I" breathed Annie, reading,
then added as an afterthought,
"ahhhhhI"
The blonde finished the three lt
le-ters she was reading, lay them
down and waited on Annie to finish.
Annie finished.
"Mtay I read the others?" she

The first niew degree to be of.

Knowledge of mathematics in de

The second degree may be con

Sometimes We Wonder
It w'as an intotTensive bit of note
book paper. It never done nobody
no harm, not at all. Ilowever, some
villanious person with a fowl sense
of humor writ this upon it:
Q. How can yon tell the differ
ence between a male and a fenale
canary?
A. Place a grain of corn in a bale
of hay. If it's a male, he'll eat it:
and if it's a female, she'll eat it.
This heretofore inotfensive scrap
of paper was found in the Foul

here, we do not profess to .know.
We sometimes wonder.
