There were apprnximately 25 Citadel alumni at the University who were planning to attend. Melvin flemtphdlilh Orchestra played for the dance, whit h was held f rom 9 till 1. The cadet s erc granted a special two o'clock leave in order to be able to attend the dance. Billy Murray is chairnrkn of the dance committee fbr tie \'-12 group. Other members of the committee at Carolina are David I-raser and Earl Stockton. Three Carolina r"-rds sponsored for the dance. Mrs. Owens Leaves For New Position Accepts Professorship At Wesleyan College Mrs. Nathalee Thomp on Owens, who has been a member of the Eng lish department of the Universite for the past seven years, has rc-igned her position as instructor to accept an assistant proics-,orNhip at Wesleyan College in Macon. i;enr ma. After her graluration irnnt Lime stone College, M rs. Owens attended the University of Chicago, where she received her Masters degree. Orig inally from Alabama, she has con sidered Columbia her home for many years. Mrs. Owens taught at the Alabama State Teachers' College at Troy. Ala hama, Blackstonc College, and at Limestone before coning to the Uni versity. For the rest e-f the semester, twc new im<tructors have been appointed to take over M r-. Owens' classes. Banquet To Precede Ball Kappa Sigma fraternity will give banquet and formal dance on the evening of September 25 at the Co lumbia Hotel. Clarence Brazell and his orchestra will supply the music for the dance and the entire student hody of the University is to be in vited(. 'hi- was announced to-night by Bob McNair, president of the fra ternity. Other officers are: vice president, Frampton Henderson; secretarv, Marius Wells; treasurer, "Skeex" Clarkson; and chairman dance committee, Van Earl Fillin gin. Grand master of ceremonies for the banquet will be Harvey At will. The ballroom will be decorated in Kappa Sigma colors which are scarlet, green and white. Bralley Runs Happy Hour Bill McMillan, Chairman of the Happy Hour Committee, has turned tonight's program over to an able assistant, Maurice Bralley, a V-12 student from Texas. The program will begin with a community sing led by Bralley. Mucic will be furnished by Jack Rutler at the piano. Bob Gayle, V-12 student, will follow with Rachmoninofi's "Prelude in C MI inor." Next on the program will be a variety dance ia Appic Speed and Seaman Papalardo. with special mu sic by Bralley. Grand finale will he tso vocal solos by Bralley.
