By Book Browsers
The University library has revised
Its regulations governing circulation
of books from the loan desk and
from the reserve book room.
Loan desk books circulate for
two weeks, after which a fine of
2c a (lay will be charged--the ac
cumulated fine not to exceed $1,00.
Overdue notices are sent the bor
rower on approximately the 15th,
18th and 21st days after the loan is
begun. Student Union books are
rented for seven days for sc, after
which 2c a day is charged. Both
fourteen day and rental books may
be reserved by students without
charge.
In the reserve book room over
might books may be charged out at
9:00 p. m. and are due at 10:00 the
next morning. The fine is !e thw
first hour and Se each additional
hour. Reserve books that circulate
from one to three days tn u y a l0c
per day line if overdue and for
those that circulate, four days or
longer only Sc per day is levied.
The reasoning here is obvious
books which circulate the shortest
time are the most in demand by
large numbers of students and
therefore the tine is made heavy
enough to get the books hack for
those other students.
The University library wishes to
get across to all students the tact
that they may browse in the second
floor book stacks which are immedi
ately behind the loan desk. These
shelves contain rental books, fiction,
history, biography, and American
and F.nglish literature. The desk at
tendant will be glad to show stu
dents where these various classi
fications are shelved. Books se
lected for use outside the stacks
must be charged out at the desk.
There has been a recent addition
to the portraits of Carolina men
hung in the University library. It
is that -f _"ndrew C. Moore and is
located on the se.und floor oplosite
the loan desk facing the front %win
<lows. This portrait was done by
Charles M. Crowson, an alumnus
of Carolina. Dr. Moore was form
erly head of the Department of
Biology and also served as acting
president of the University .11;

der the above specification
should, if they have not already
done so, apply immediately for
their degrees. The necessity of
doing this immediately is
brought out by the registrar's
statement that requests for de

within at least the next few

negro athletic trainer for the
Gamecocks. He has been
patching up Carolina football,
bas1setball, and track stars for
the last twenty years, and the

team this fall came as quite a
blow to his usually impertuirb
ably cheerful attitude.
