William King (Duck) Richardson, '39E, of Columbia, was wountded in action in Sicily while fighting as a paratrooper with the Eighty-second Airborne division, it is reported here. He was hit in the calf of the right leg by a piec of shrapnel July 10, according to a let ter received by his mother, Mrs. H. W. Richardson. Lieutenant Richard soil has reported that his wound is not serious and that he expects to leave the hospital soon. Lieut. Julius H. Taylor, '41A, has been wounded in action, it was re ported recently by the War De partient. Lieutenant Taylor, who has been recuperating in a hospital in this country, flew with Maj. Reginald D. LEPPARD Class of 1903 Holds Reunion Although there was no Alumni Day celebration this year, four members of the Class of 1903 met on the campus on May 31 to re new their ties with Carolina and with each other. It was the occasion of the forti eth anniversary of their graduation from the University. The members met at the Alumni Office, strolled over the campus, reviewed college pranks of yester year, and visited their old prokes sors. Stanley Edward Brose, '42A, has been awarded the Purple Heart for (listinguished service in North Africa, according to word received by Mrs. Brose (Jean Bell), '42C, of Lugoff. Private Brose, whose home is in New York City, attended the University for three years and was captain of the tennis team while here. In a letter just received at the Alumni Office, Alumnus Brose writes that "things over here are going well and the campaign is all through. We are resting and clean ing up, for we were on the line over two months." The letter modestly avoids any mention of the award. S/Sgt. John K. Farnum, '39A, of Columbia, was decorated with the Air Medal June 11 "in recognition 1 of meritorious achievement while i participating in aerial fight in the 0 Middle East theatre." Sergeant Farnum has been overseas for iore than six months and has taken part in several operational sorties. 1st Lieut. Palmer S. McClellan, '40A, has been awarded the Dis tinguished Flying Cross "for hero ism of extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial fight" and the Purple Heart on account of a "wounds received in action against an enemy of the United States". Ie had previously been awarded the Air Medal. Lieutenant McClellan, a bombardier on a Flying Fortress, I is now stationed in North Africa. Ie was formerly in England. Lieut. George Stokes Goolsby, '38A, of Denmark, was decorated recently with the Air Medal "in recognition of his courageous, fear less service" in the Southwest Ipa cific area between September 21 and Qctober 30, 1942.
