Hedden Lines By HELEN HEDDEN * Relax, Now that elections are almost over-Take a deep breath to prepare for the class elections next week-Rumor says that Bill Jones celebrated his victory with milk-shakes--What with the new all-year schedule, stt(lents will mniss the balmy spring air which usually accompanies campaigning, for some of the elections will necessarily fall at other times of the year for the duration. Not that we don't like the rest of the year, and after all, the national candi date manage fall campaigning, but there's something about spring ! But we said that before-Anyway, it's still wonderful-Spring, we mean. * Graduation for the first Pre-flight Cadets to leave will feature a Battalion Ball to night which will highlight this week's doings at Carolina-The Pre-flighters now become Pre-flighters-With farewells for the First Battalion will be mingled welcomes for the new group which will arrive-And speaking of balls, Junior Damas is coming up soon, April 20th, they think. * New Members of Tri Delta are Lucretia Hall and Keitt Harris, who were initiated Thursday night-ATO's inducted Henry Ravenel as an active, and Delta Sigs dittoed James Cox and Abner Smith-Cox went in the army Wednes (lay morning-John Osborne and Willie Ileustis became Kappa Sig actives last Saturday, and John left for the army. * Parties Again, and forever, we hope-The ATO's had one at Senator Hammond's Tues (lay night, and the KA's dood it last week-The Kappa Sigs are planning a weiner roast tonight-The Pi KA's had a stag supper at Charlie Watson's Tuesday night-Bill Bochman's was the scene of the .Sigma Chi revelry last Thursday night-The Sigma Nu's are seriously considering having one big farewell party for all departing brothers, for they leave so rapidly that its getting the remaining ones down. -lowever, they concentrate( last week on sending off Julian Marchant and Gus Williamson, who went in the army and navy, respectively-Pan-Hellenic will give a drop-in for the Pre flight cadets and their dates before the dance tonight in the ZTA, Chi Omega, and KD rooms. * Coming and Going: Toim Stokes, former pre-med student, is visiting Columbia and the campus, on furlough from Jefferson Barracks, Missouri-Craig Carmichael went back to her ole alma mammny, Salem College last weekend-Peggy Belser went to Charleston this week, and Helen Pride Craig will trek down there this weekend to the see the gardens (?). accompanied by Joyce Hetzel and Betty Marshall, who will be deptutating for the Y-Lt. There has been more interest in iurses training lately than any :ourse ofTered at the University of south Carolina, accordling to Mrs. \rney Childs, D)ean of \Vomen. Mrs. Childs has receivedl letters ronm over 50 girls since the begin iing of the school year requesting nformation on the B.S. D)egree in nrsing that the University olfers, he saidl. The war has had a great effect on he number of students who have pplied for this course. Questionnaires Used In Survey A survey of all the extra-curricu lar organizations of the University of South Carolina is being prepared to determine the active organiza tions on the campus and also to eliminate those w1hich have become inactive in the past years. Questionnaires have been sent to the presidents of each organization requesting such information as, the present place and time of meeting, desired changes in place and time of meeting, and the iames of the pres ident and secretary of that particu lar organization. On information desired is whether the organization wishes to remain active during the coming summer semester. Several presidents have not made any response to the questionnaires and they are urged to send in this information to Prof. R. 1-1. Wiene feld by Saturday, April 3. Euphradian Society Sees Pros And Cons Of Prohibition The Euphradian literary society met on Tuesday niight, March 30, at 8 o'clock to discuss the pros and cons of prohibition. The program consisted of a de bate by members of the society. The debate was: Resolved that pro hibition be instituted for the dura tion of the wvar. M[orris Maztursky andl George Faile took the affirma tive while Bill Nicholos and Isa dore Bernstein took the negative. Thurman D)uncan, a junior from Easley, was recently elected to suc ceed Johnny Clark as vice-president of the society. Clark was called into the army a few weeks ago. In turn, the Y.W.C.A. and Y.M. C.A. heads installed the officers and cabinets of their respect.ve organi zations.
