Ek Training
)n Campus
Women who wish to prepare
themselves to help win the war by
working in a vital war industry are
urged to enroll fQr one of 12 free
evening courses which will be con
ducted this spring by the Univer
sity of South Carolina school of en
gineering as part of the national
engineering, science and manage
ment war training program.
Because millions of women will
have to do work formerly perform
ed by men before the war is won,
the Feredal government, which
pays all tuition expenses of these
courses, particularly desires that
women register for them.
Most people who have taken
these courses in the past several
semesters at Carolina have been
men, but the number of women is
increasing steadily. Of course,
qualified men who wish to fit them
selves to fill specific wartime em
ployment needs also are urged to
register.
Registration Begins March 1
Registration for all 12 courses
will take place in room 310 Sloan
college on the university campus
from 7 to 10 p. m., Monday, Tues
day, and Wednesday, March 1, 2,
and 3.
Generally speaking, high school
graduation fulfills educational re
quirements for enrollment. Each
course will involve from nine to 15
hours a week in classroom work and
preparation. The courses will con
tinue from 13 to 27 weeks.
Members of the regular univer
sity faculty and other qualified ex
perts will teach the war training
courses. Certificates will be award
ed to persons who complete
courses, but no college credit will
be given. Jobs will not be guar
anteed, but students who complete
courses will be registered with the
federal employment service if they
desire positions.
Information
A catalog describing all courses
and other information may be ob
tained from Prof. R. L. Sumwalt,
director of the program, 310 Sloan
