Hot Dogs Are Tops As Freshmen YWCA Honors Newcomers Freshmnan members of the Y. W. C. A. entertained the incoming freshmian with a picnic at Valley Park Tuesday afternoon. Hot dogs were cooked over an open fire. The picnic was a typical "rough it" for spoons were the only available silverware, and served to cut pickles, as well as anything else that hiappened to need cut ting. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mildred Salmon, and after bVing introduced by the critic, Beverly Nininger, Dr. Rob ert L. Meriwether gave an inter esting talk on the South Caro liniana Library and how it can be of value to Carolina students. Two new members, Betty Ruth and Nora Walsh, were initiated and Mary Boykin was elected vice president by acclamation. After plans were discussed to stimulate interest by having reports on best selling novels at each future meet ing, the club voted to join the Book-of-the-Month Club and the meeting was adjourned. Euphrosynean invites any girl who is interested and has an aver age of B in English to come to their next meeting, February 24. Reports will be made on interest ing incidents taken from ante bellum newspapers at their time. Officers Installed At Hypatian Meeting The installation of officers of the Hypatian literary society of the Unm versity was held Wednesday. Feb. 3, in Clariosophic hall. Phyllis Hol man, out-going president presided. The new officers include; president, Marie Fox; vice-president. Edna Long; secretary, Josephine Zula; treasurer, Lillian Perkins; critic. SDEl Dancing Worynne Pag VI" onight Fraternity Formal And Banquet To Be At Columbia Hotel The biennial formal of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity will be held tonight at the Columbia Hotel from 9 'til 1. Melvin Hemphill and his orchestra will furnish the music. Dr. William P. Jacobs, president of Presbyterian College and fra ternity brother, will be the guest speaker at a banquet preceeding the dance. The main feature of the dance is to be the grand march led by the following officers and their dates: John McGowan, president, with Virginia Bracey; John Molland, treasurer, with Ann Holloway, from Coker College; Dwight Holder, sec retary, with Jessie Mauldin, from Pickens; Jay Hammett, historian, with Mary Alice McMillan; John Cook, chaplain, with Mildred Sol man; Charlie Baber, warden, with Judy Kleckly, and David Fowler, chairman of dance committee, with Jane Specht. The Valentine motive will be carried out in the decorations. The fraternity colors, gold, white, and blue will also be used. Several faculty members will serve as chaperones. Goldnan, and, recorder, Catherine Martin. The new president, Miss Fox, ex tended thanks to the society for the honor bestowed upon her but said that due to class conflicts, she must resign. Sarah Whitworth was then elected to the presidency. Margaret Pridgen was elected as critic to fill the vacancy left by Miss Whitworth's election as president. Marie Fox then installed these new officers.
