Santa Claus is beginning to look a little shop-worn . . . the buses are beginning to heave with the crowds . . . on the campus, the snow Wednesday had everybody whistling Jingle Bells, and daydream ing of white Christmas . . . Sorority rooms are bedecked in holly and mistletoe ... people are forgetting and smiling at their worst enemies . . . in history classes, instead of notes there are figures of hours until Christ mas . . . or dates of when buses leaves . . . broke blokes are getting mad with their girls and wealthy gentlemen are getting sweeter and sweeter smiles . . . and all in all, things ain't so bad, nellie . . . to the professors who will have to work all during the holidays to have school ready for us and our 600 new naval gentlemen and to those of us Who will just sleep and get fat . . . God bless us every one, good cheer, and in case you hadn't thought of it . . Merry Christmas. * Merrily, Merrily ... Everybody is rushing around trying to get in at least one good party before retiring to Podunk until next year . . . the ATO boys had a gay time in the honor of and at the home of alumnus Bill Bray who had just returned from a lengthy tour of the west coast etc. . . it was last Thursday night . . . per usual they sang and listened to Brother Bray's escapades . . . and, well, they had a nice time . . . the ZTA's have been partying too; . . . they gathered round a Christmas tree Monday and exchanged presents, sang songs, . . . and watched their pledges take off the actives in a skit . . . and then Wednesday they had a boy-girl party for rushees and carried out the Christmas idea here too. . . the Pi Phi sisters celebrated Wednesday with a yuletide affair . . . and speaking of Pi Phi, they had a tea last Monday to show off the crafts made in a Pi Phi welfare association . . . the tea was good, the display enticing, and many Christmas gift problems solved. e Time Out . . . While I gripe . . . you can join me if you like . . . but honestly, I am Just beginning to realize what a dull situation it is wiei ile eswiw'11;le beloved Blue Key doesn't function . . . looka heah, maybe you are a worthy organization, and maybe people should be thrilled to become a keyhole, but how in . . . fudge . . . do you expect anybody to send any body a Christmas card . . . with no student directory? . . . gentlemen, your service to the university students in past years is appreciated however. o More Merrily Law* federation members forgot their weighty problems and played like ordinary college students Wednesday at member Sarah Graydon's house-an ideal place to cut loose . . . and the Phi Ep Pis are going childish . . . they say . . . personally I think its a grand idea . . . their scavenger hunt tonight, I mean . . . it's to be on foot to save gas . . . and beginning their Christmas holidays at the Citadel dances this week-end will be: Tan Miller, Patty Lawrence, Inez Morrall, Margie ,Black, and other envyed ones . . . the Tri-Delts will journey en masse to the city by the sea too, to see sister-debutante Anne Gregorie come out. * The Greeks Have A Word . . . BIHARI, Carolno-'32 SDanCE KSK Banquet HeldTuesday f Kappa Sigma Kappa, University of South Carolina's honorary service fraternity, held their annual banquet Tuesday, December 15, at 8 p. m. in the crystal room of the Colum bia Hotel. Speakers of the evening were: Dr. S. M. Derrick of the economics department and Dr. W. H. Calcott of the history department whose sub ject was "Troubleshooters of To morrow." Officers and their dates were as follows: Frank Sloan, president, with Helen Yobs; Jimmy Guest, sec retary, with Lib Evans; Tom Per rin, treasurer, with Tina Cannon; Al va Coggeshall, chairman of the ban quet committee, with Harriet William son; and Bill Jones, scribe, with Sel ma Gilland. Others present were: Dr. and Mrs. J. Rion McKissick, Dr. and Mrs. L. T. Baker, and Dr. J. A. Stoddard. The purpose of the organization is service to the University. One of its projects for this year was the in vestigation of the housing conditions and it is also in charge of campus defense program. Christmas Vespers, Caroling, Party Planned For Tonight A special Christmas program will be presented in the University of South Carolina chapel, sponsored by the University YMCA and YWCA vesper committees. After the program the group will make a tour of pro fessors' homes near the campus sing ing carols, and will end with a social gathering at Flinn Hall. The program will start at 7 p. in., and will be over by 8 p. m.; the sing ing tour will end at 8:30. Christmas carols and the reading of the Christ mas scripture story will compose the program in the chapel. Both group and special singing will be featured, accompanied by the organ. The program will be over in time for any who wish to attend the dance being held later in the evening, ac cording to the vesper committee. Fighting Alumni Want Coed Mail "We wvant to hear from the girls --that's who wve're fighting for.", read one letter received by the Uni-. versity of South Carolina alumni as-' sociation, said its secretary, Ralph Lewvis. Many of the letters coming in from USC graduates now scattered all over the world are just to thank the alumni association for the copy of The Game cock they are sent each week, Lewis said. Many are to ask the address of former classmates. And still more want to hear from home, from their alma mater-and they want the girls to write them. In answer to such requests, the alumni association has bought a sup ply of V-mail stationery, and is ready to pay the postage of any letter a co ed wvrites to one of our alumni over seas, as part of the alumni program.] Names of boys overseas were given out at a recent meeting of the Co ed Association, but, said Lewis, thej number of letters brought to the alum-. nii offices had been disappointing. The association is now looking for some organization who will really put across this letter-writing campaign. Any co-ed interested in helping is asked to contact the alumni offices. Hemphill To Play The annual Christmas formal of the German Club will be held tonight, in the ballroom of the Jefferson Hotel. The dance will be from 9 til 1 with music furnished by Melvin Hemphill and his orchestra. Main feature of the evening will be the grand march and the junior-senior figure. Officers and their dates in the figure will be: Jack Tobias, president, with Binky Ellerbe; Charlie Holmes, vice-presi dent, with Lucille Overstreet; Dwight Holder, secretary, with Mary Du Bose; Sam Roach, treasurer, with Estelle Folsom; Othneil Wienges, as sistant treasurer, with Patty Law rence. The German Club is made up of members from seven fraternities on the campus and its officers are elected by rotation. Its program consists of four dances a year. Christian Service Discusses Mission Ways in which the sugg'estions formulated during the Christian Mis sion week on the University campus could be put into practice were Us cussed at the regular meeting of the Christian Service club, Tuesday night in Flinn Hall. Leading the discussion were: Miss Mary Phelps Wheeler, of the Univer sity school of social work, chairman of the book exhibit r1iring the Chris tian Mission, and Sarah Flinn, co-ed student on the Christian Mission steering committee. After discussion the group agreed that the religious organizations on the campus were not touching all the stu dents wtih their problems, and that it should be the task of interested students to help remedy this situa tion. More discussion groups were advocated as the best way to get students interested.
