Cancer Experiments 01
May Aid In Finding L
Graduate's Report Read
Before Research Group
Dr. Howard H. Beard, a graduate
of the University, class of 1914, has
been conducting research in connec
tion with the cure of cancer, and re
ported some success to the meeting
of the American Association for Can
cer Research held in Boston recently.
Director of the department of bi
ochemistry at the Louisiana State
University, Dr. Beard has been ex
perimenting with the nutritional and
metabolic phases of cancers.
In his report to the association, Dr.
Beard announced that feeding ani
mals extra amounts of a group of the
constituent of proteins (amino acids)
has resulted in the disappearance of
transplated tumors in 69 to 82.9 per
cent of the animals.
lie also reported that tests are now
being made on human beings, and
"earlylindications are very favorable."
Some hospital cases have been able
to return to work after the injections,
but Dr. Beard says that the question
cannot be answered definitely until
further research is done.

sign of victory.
This picture was taken by C. F. W
Davis, of New York, class of 1903, V

Mr. Davis made the unusual shot L
by setting up his camera and open- Ja
