Music for the affair will be fur nished by Buster Spann and his or chestra. Alpha Tau Omega was founded in 1865 at Virginia Military Insti tute. During the course of the years 127 chapters have been chartered with approximately 35,000 total in itiates. Alpha Phi chapter was first es tablished at the University in 1883 but remained inactive from 1897 to 1927 when fraternities were banned from the University. ATO returned to the campus in 1927 by absorbing the Bohemian club into the Alpha Phi chapter. Ofjcers for the spring semester are: William Marks Bray of Co lumbia, president; Leslie Clemmons of Marion, vice-president; Edward Barnwell of Abbeville, treasurer; Francis Marion of York, secretary; and Massey Trotter of Camden, chairman of the dance committee. YWCA Executive Council Plans To Meet Wednesdays Y. W. C. A. executive council swung into its last lap today-full speed ahead. Activities featured the beginning of one more luncheon series-the executive council from now on will meet every Wednesday at one p. m. in Students Hall. The council appointed a commit tee at their meeting Wednesday to investigate possible nominees for the nearing Y. W. C. A. elections which will come off next month. Virginia Bracev waq annointed YW representative to the chapel com mittee. Phylis Holman was elected the new representative to cabinet for Christian Service Cl,Lb at the !ast meeting of the club Tuesday night. Deputations were sent this week to Greenville, Union, and Gaffney High Schools. At the general Y meeting yester day Dean Arney Childs led a dis cussion. It has been decided by the cabinet that there should be a gen eral Y meeting every Thursday at four fifteen. Different c!nss cils are to be in charge of the meet ings. Inter-fraternity Council Plans Annual Ball May 1 In celebration of May Day, the Interfraternity Council officially de cided at its meeting last Monday to stage its annual ball on Friday, May 1 in the University gymnasium, with Buster Spann's orchestra giv ing out the melodies. After much discussion about the annual dues of each fraternity to the council it was decided that each representative consult his fraternity and be prepared to vote at the next meeting. The argument was as to whether the dues should remain at $7 per year without assessment or be changed to $3 per year with assessments. Garnet and Black pictures of council members for last semester and this semester will be taken at the next meeting to be held this afternoon at 4 p. m. in Flinn Hall. Dr. Edward A. Birge, president emeritus of the University of Wis consin, is one of the world's fore most authorities on lake studies. AKG Song Fest Planned For End Of This Month A song fest, sponsored by Alpha Kappa Gamma, will be held in the chapel the last of this month. The exact date and the rules of the fest will be decided later by a represen tative from each fraternity and so rority. Lavinia Lyles is chairman of the committee. Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Delta Delta Delta have had the cups for two years and if they win this year, they wi:ll be allowed to keep them. The proceeds of the festival will go to the scholarship fund. Skfrta pleated or go Main And rs Day SAE Commemorates Special Event By Banquet Tomorrow Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity of the University of South Carolina will have their annual Founders day banquet Saturday evening at the Wade Hampton Hotel at 7:30 o'clock. The SAE fraternity was founded March 9, 1856, at the University of Alabama. In 1927 the Delta chapter came back to the, University campus. The officers are Barney Timmons, president; McIver Riley, secretary; James T. Funderburk, treasurer, and Alva Lumpkin, chairman of the banquet. The speaker's table and the hall will carry out the fraternity's col ors, purple and gold. The feature of the banquet will be the presentation of the Lumpkin award to the outstanding freshman of the year. Freshmen who have received this award in past years are: Beverley Herbert, Arden A. Lemon, Frank P. Sinrill and William A. Horger. Five sponsor; have been selected for Saturday evening. They are: Harriet Tobin for Bar ney Timmons, Marty Harley for Sam King, Peggy Forbes for Mc Iver Riley, Mary Elizabeth Funder burk for James Funderburk and Wilodene Rion for Alva Lumpkin. "You Can Defend America," is a patriotic revue which is touring the United States in the interest of national defense. The governor, the state senate, and the state Council of Defense i -pvonirru ithe presenT;tIn of thiQ revue in Columbia to bring to the people of South Carolina the knowl edge of what they must do to win the war. The revue presents tnree points which are vital to national defense. They are: a united home front, united industry, and a united coun try. Admiral Byrd has said of this revue, "Twenty-four hours with this morale-building crew is more excit ing than flying to the South Pole.' Barton Mumaw May Appear At Drayton Hall March 18 Barton Mumaw, world's outstand ing male dancer, is being contacted by the Drama Committee of De fense Recreation in hope that he may appear at Drayton Hall March 18, Prof. M. G. Christophersen, chairman of the committee, an nounced today. Mumaw's performance will con sist of solo dancing to the accom paniment of his own orchestra if the committee is able to obtain the date open in his tour.
