Cannon Fodder
By TINA CANNON
Wel, 'here 'goes ... loading the cannon ... though nothing
could be fodder from the truth. I take up my typewriter in lap
and start pecking out the news--all the society tidbits 'n stuff,
maybe even a moron joke or two.
RUSH..
Rushing season is on again. Second semester entrants into the Uni
versity are being feted with parties galore by the sororities and the
fraternities. Sigma Nus had one last Saturday night at Joe Dillard's.
A fried chicken supper was served by mothers of the members . . . The
ATO's threw a party the same night-an informal affair at the home
of Bill Bray. Tuesday night the Pi Kaps entertained at an informal
dance at Sloan's studio . . . and on Thursday night at a fish supper.
Phi Eps will have a smoker tonight in their fraternity room. Mmmm,
some doings.
FULL HOUSE-(?)...
Scene at the SAE house:
Doc Ham: "Hey, there's a woman peddler at the door. What'll
I say?"
Charlie Holmes: "Tell him we've got plenty."
MORE PARTIES ...
The Kappa Alphas had theirs Tuesday night at Jack Tobias' lake
house . . . ATO fraternity had a lake party, too-Thursday night at
Lake Murray . . . Pi KA's will entertain rushees at Harvey's Cafeteria
tonight, and tomorrow night at Earlewood Park. The Kappa Sigs
pitched a tacky party Wednesday night at Sloan's studio, where they
danced and carried on.
SORORITIES...
AD Pi's and Chi Omegas stirted the ball rolling Tuesday, the
AD Pi's with a spaghetti supper in their chapter room, and the
Chi Omegas with a bowling party. Wednesday the Tri-Delts
had a tea at Ethel Heyward's, and the Kappa Deltas an informal
party at the home of Shirley Sumner, while the Delta Zetas
played bingo in their sorority room. Thursday afternoon the
ZTAs entertained at an informal party at Mrs. Roberta Starling's
home, and the AD Pi's had a tea at Sara Davies'. The Chi
Omegas also had a tea, at Ethel Mae Harwell's house. On
Thursday night the Tri-Deltas entertained informally at Josie
Brown's country place, and the Delta Zetas tossed a waffle
supper in their chapter room.
APPROACHING...
Spaghetti suppers seem to be the thing . . . The Kappa Deltas are
having theirs tonight at Flossie Claussen's, and the ZTAs are having
theirs in the sorority room tonight . . . Tomorrow the Chi Omeras
are planning a lake party, and the Delta Zetas a late-at-night pajama
party . . . Then Sunday afternoon the Delta Zetas are inviting some
girls to drop in at the sorority room. The Alpha Delta Pi's will end
the rushing season with their last party, a steak supper, at Earlewood
Park on Monday night.
DOINGS . . .
Elinor Flynn went to Oharleston last night to attend the St.
Cecilia ball ... Carol Humbert, Hazel Sanders, and Lib Graham
are trucking up Clinton way to jive at the Presbyterian College
Mid-Winters his weekend . . . Carolyn Perry visited in Balti
more, Md., last weekend ... Lulu Bass and Jean Paschal traveled
to Gawja the other day-Atlanta, to be specific . . . Jo Stout
and Georgia Shuler visited Chapel Hill (and U. N. C.) the past
weekend... Some fun ... Betty Swyqert, Kappy Malone, and
Jobie Brown took in the fancy dreis balla at Washington and Lee

The age of adolescence is

The main blow hard is Dick

seventeen years old, and already
he has become the outstanding
trumpeter of Mr. "T's" wagon.
Dick joined up with what was
left of the Powell's four weeks
ago after Uncle Sam so crude
ly interrupted the boys head
way to the top of the band.
Teddy spotted Dick playing in
a night club in Ohio, and
promptly there were signatures
on the dotted line. His ambi
