Dr. Patters Majority Of Studen Religious Emphasis 3,342 Heard Speeches, "Y" Leader Estimates More than 60 per cent of the Uni versity's student body attended at least one of the meetings of the Religious Emphasis week which was observed on the campus last week, according tc R. G. Bell, YMCA secretary. The estimate was based on records of attendance kept for each meeting. Mr. Bell said that attendance for the week reached a total of 3,342 for the 42 meetings, which included committee breakfasts, chapel convo cations, denominational suppers, dormitory discussions, and semi nars. Highest attendance was at the daily convocations with an average of 372 students at each of the five meetings. Ninety-six stildentq nt tended each of the three seminars held during the week. An average of 39 students attended the five daily breakfasts for committee members, and 25 students attended each of the 25 discussions with dormitory groups, the figures revealed. Green ODK Takes In Six S Honorary Members I Six University students and three honorary members were initiated by Chi circle of Omicroti Delta Kappa, national honorary leadership, Wednes day night at the Wade Hampton The initiation was followed by the Chapter's annual banquet. Dr. R. H. Vienefeld, professor of history and acting librarian at the Univer sity, one of the three men initiated as an honorary member, made the principal address at the banquet. The other two honorary members are: Dr. Patterson Wardlaw, dean emeritus of the University's school of education, and Dr. C. Sylvester Pre-Meds Given Aptitude Tests The medical college aptitude test, sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges, was given at LeConte college on Decem ber 5, according to Dr. Guy Lips comb, faculty advisor of all Uni versity of South Carolina pre-medi cal students. This test, according to Doctor Lipscomb, is a special test for all those pre-medical students who failed to take it last spring,-but who are planning to apply for admission to medical school during 1943. The move was started by occupants of Tenement Ten last Monday im mediately after President Roosevelt's speech asking Congress to declare war against Japan. ' According to Harry Hinson, act ing president of the club, present plans call for blanks to be placed in conspiciuous places on the campus where students desiring membership can sign up. If a sufficient nunber of students show interest a meeting will be called at which time officers will be elected and a constitution drawn up. Says President Hinson, "Instead of waiting till after the war to form a club our proposal is to have an or ganization which will enable us .to keep in touch with Carolina students during the war. We hope the move will spread to other schools through out the country." Late Wednesday afternoon, approxi mately 125 students had signed the membership blank placed in the can teen, and it appears that considerable interest is being shown in the plan. A student withdrawing f ro m school without notice shall not be entitled to honorable discharge. Applications for withdrawal are made to the Registrar.
